The Star Ocean series separates itself from similar titles with its stylized action-based combat and the customization offered through its Item Creation mechanics. Unsurprisingly, Star Ocean: The Divine Force features a flexible and complex item creation system that players must utilize to get everything out of the game's combat and more.

While Star Ocean may not share the same success as Final Fantasy, Tri-Ace’s flagship franchise has enjoyed a long history of high quality JRPGs.

Unlike Star Ocean: The Second Story R, fans must work and progress the story to unlock each grid on the Item Creation menu. As the story is fast-paced, it can be easy to forget about the crafting system and its associated side quests. This guide will show fans how and when to get Item Creation in Star Ocean: The Divine Force.

When To Get Item Creation In Star Ocean: The Divine Force

Star Ocean The Divine Force - Welch's House

Follow the story in Chapter One of Star Ocean: The Divine Force, and the party will eventually arrive at the Seaport of Rythal. Upon arrival, they will initiate a quest to meet Welch, a recurring character in the Star Ocean series. After the cutscene, the party must return a lost ring to Welch in the town of Delryk.

Look for the house that has Welch's giant pointed-finger wand attached to the house. Return the ring to Welch to trigger the Welch the Compounder side quest and unlock the first compounding grid in the Item Creation menu.

Welch The Compounder

The first side quest from Welch is called Welch the Compounder and asks the party to retrieve three Roly-Poly Beans. The beans can purchased from shops or picked up from enemies on the field or around towns represented by green icons.

Welch The Crafter

The second quest from Welch is called Welch the Crafter. It becomes available at the start of Chapter Two after Elena joins the party. Welch asks the party to retrieve Five Fresh Sage. At this point of the game, the group should have lots of Fresh Sage in their inventory, but it can be purchased from shops or picked up around towns and on the field, represented by green icons. This will unlock the Crafting grid in the Item Creation menu.

Welch The Smithy

Completing the Welch the Smithy quest will unlock the Smithing grid in the Item Creation menu. This quest becomes available in Chapter Two after Nina finds a cure for Helgar's disease. After speaking to Welch, she requests the party bring her Ten Silver. Silver can be purchased from merchants and found as green icons on the field and in towns.

Welch The Engineer

The Welch the Engineer quest unlocks toward the end of Chapter Two. To complete this mission and unlock the Engineering grid in the Item Creation menu, the party must bring her two Claidheamh Soluis. The Claidheamh Soluis is a sword that can be equipped for Raymond. Luckily, they can be purchased locally at the store in Delryk for 1800 Fol.

Welch The Alchemist

To complete Welch the Alchemist and obtain the Alchemy grid in the Item Creation menu, the party will get a call from Welch in Chapter Three. They must bring her five (s) Electromagnetic Bombs. The bombs can be crafted as Elena or Midas in the Engineering tab using two electro-transmitter materials. Or the party can purchase the bombs from the Bargain Buys store in Larcette Village after completing the Lodestone sidequest.

Welch The Author

Welch will call again toward the end of Chapter Three to begin the Welch the Author side quest. The party must bring her ten Mithril to complete the quest and unlock the Authoring grid in Item Creation. Mithril can be purchased from the materials shop in Acendros for 1300 Fol each.

Welch The Synthesizer

To unlock the final Item Creation skill, Synthesis, the party must return to Acendros after the events in the Baldaar Citadel. Welch requires five Fire Incantations, which can be purchased from the Cotto, Acendros, and Edos stores.

That's everything the party needs to unlock all the skills in the Item Creation menu. It's a good idea to use SP on party members in reserve to level up specific IC Skills in Star Ocean: The Divine Force. T his will help the party obtain better items.
