The Rebel Alliance might be just a whisper of covert networks and operatives at the start of Andor Season 1, but by the end of Andor Season 2, the Rebellion is all around the Empire, surrounding the fascist regime and ready to topple Palpatine’s dreams in the wake of a better world. Rebels have been in this fight for years–decades, even, so it’s only right to look at some of the most important and bravest rebels in Andor.
6 Lingering Questions We Have After The End Of Andor Season 2
While Andor ends on a strong note and sets the stage for Rogue One, there are a few questions that remain unanswered about the show's story.
Bravery comes in many forms, and the Rebellion attacks the Empire on many fronts. Information, front lines, and espionage – all integral tactics to fight back. With Andor putting a focus on so many rebels, it’s time to look at those who deserve to be remembered for the fight that they gave the Empire.
Spoilers ahead for Andor Season 1 & Andor Season 2!
8 Bix Caleen
A Woman On the Run and Devoted to Rebellion
- Played by: Adria Arjona
Bix Caleen is a complex character, one who has suffered immensely under the grip of the Empire. Bix was tortured by the ISB, and had her friends, her life, taken from her by them. Yet, through it all, she still had Cassian. The two loved each other, and Bix was devoted to him and their rebellious way of life to fight the Empire together, but Cassian saw the toll it took on Bix over the years.
The bravest act ever committed by Bix was leaving Cassian, knowing that by leaving, he would have to stay in the Rebel Alliance and realize that he’s fighting for a better future – a future they cannot share until it’s done. Bix did not give up on Cassian; she just proved to him the hope in the fight, and sacrificed her happiness to raise their child.
7 Mon Mothma
A Senator Who Relinquishes Luxury to Rebel
- Played by: Genevieve O'Reilly
Mon Mothma might not be the typical Rebel, blaster in hand, but she is someone who has given everything to rebel against Emperor Palpatine and the Empire. Hailing as a renowned Senator, Mon Mothma had a platform where she could criticize the Empire and expose the lies and cruelty of Emperor Palpatine, and she used that platform every day until the warrant for her arrest came in.
Without Mon Mothma, the Rebel Alliance would have neither the funding or spirit to continue. She’s an integral leader, and she proves that not every rebel needs to be a cold killer to stick it to the Empire, as sometimes all it takes is the truth, powerful words, and hope.
6 Vel Sartha
One of Luthen’s Most Trusted Spies
- Played by: Faye Marsay
Vel Sartha risks everything as a rebel. She is also the cousin of Mon Mothma, which further increases the risk of her capture because of her ties to a Senator who is critical of the Empire. Despite the risk involved with her rebellion, she refuses to back down and surrender to the Empire, or go quietly into a life underneath the Empire’s smothering laws and control. Instead, Vel fights for vast rebel networks, committing crimes against imperial payrolls, and for love.
Andor: 6 Things Season 2 Did Better Than Season 1
With Season 2 of Andor now complete, let's look back at all the ways this final season improved upon the first iteration of this Star Wars prequel.
Vel’s love for her girlfriend, Cinta Kaz, is the inspiration and hope she needs to fight on. She’s a loyal rebel soldier who will put together operations and put herself in danger to fight through them on the ground without hiding behind comms and the hope of a successful plan without her direct risk.
5 Wilmon Paak
An Incredible Mechanic Who Puts Love Before Himself
- Played by: Muhannad Bhaier
Wilmon Paak started out as a dastardly rebel, using the skills and technology available to him to create bombs to disrupt and harm the Empire and their takeover of his planet, Ferrix. Wilmon’s hatred for the Empire grew by the day, until eventually he had the courage to fight back alongside the people of Ferrix. Thrust into a new age of rebellion, Wilmon would devote his life to the cause.
Whether it’s assisting Saw Gerrera or realising the grand potential and hope within the Rebel Alliance, Wilmon would fight on with invention and blaster for love and the rebel cause, which saw him injured in Ghorman for trying to find and save his girlfriend. While Wilmon’s leg injury never recovered, his fighting spirit persists.
4 Luthen Rael
A Man Who Burns His Decency For a Future He Will Never See
- Played by: Stellan Skarsgard
Luthen Rael is perhaps the original rebel, one who started this fight decades ago. Luthen may hold no ranking, nor favor in the Rebel Alliance, but all of this wouldn’t exist without him. From bombing Imperial operations in Naboo to stirring up trouble with Emperor Palpatine, to teaching a vast network of spies across the galaxy how to rebel and be the covert operatives the Rebellion needs, Luthen Rael has friends everywhere, and bravery like no other.
8 Best Quotes From Andor Season 2
Andor features some of the best writing in Star Wars' history, as exemplified in these memorable quotes from the show's second season.
Luthen Rael isn’t afraid to get into danger himself, and even when caught, his first method to evade danger isn’t to escape and take as many Imperials with him, but to take his own life so that the vast secrets he carries can never be tortured out of him. The immense bravery he shows by waking up every day, doing what he does in secrecy, and then his willingness to take his own life to keep the Rebellion safe, shows his fortitude as one of the bravest rebels.
3 Kleya Marki
Luthen’s Loyal Daughter Who Will Stop At Nothing to Rebel
- Played by: Elizabeth Dulau
Kleya Marki was saved and raised by Luthen and taught everything he knew about fighting the oppressive regime of the Galactic Empire. As such, it’s no surprise that she emits immense bravery in the face of danger, despite her life of luxury on Coruscant as his concierge. Kleya is devoted to the rebel cause, and one of the originals who worked alongside Luthen since she was a child.
Her experience as Luthen’s soldier makes her the perfect candidate, which is why she gives it her all to contact agents in the field from Coruscant, putting her own life at risk each and every time. Kleya more than proved her bravery when she infiltrated an Imperial-controlled hospital to fulfill the wish of her father-figure by killing him, despite the odds being stacked against her.
2 Cassian Andor
A Rebel Who Gives His Life for the Cause
- Played by: Diego Luna
Cassian Andor may have been a nobody, but after fighting the Empire for 10 years, he’s proved his integral status as a captain of the Rebel Alliance. Cassian Andor was willing to die for the Rebel Alliance, knowing that he might never see Bix again, but knowing that it was for a cause to change the world. Whether it’s disobeying orders from higher command to do what he sees as the utmost priority, or challenging others to do the same, Cassian knows when to fight and when to run.
What makes Cassian such a great rebel is his resilience, his upbringing, and the lessons he learned from Luthen Rael. Cassian might commit a few darker tasks for the rebellion, but it’s because he knows he can shoulder those burdens as he attempts to bring back the dream of a New Republic, even if it’s one he will never see.
1 Saw Gerrera
No Rebel is as Ruthless and Devoted as This Revolutionist
- Played by: Forest Whitaker
Saw Gerrera is something the Rebel Alliance does not want, but he is something that they need. His tactics are unjust, cruel, and extremely dangerous. Saw’s methods of rebellion are loud and brutal, and while they give the Rebel Alliance a bad name, it’s something that Saw truly does not care about. So long as he gets to provide the Empire with a loss, he’s happy, no matter who is hurt in the process.
Saw Gerrera is an extremist, one who will stop at nothing to provide the Empire with a defeat, no matter how petty and violent. With his cruel tactics and rousing speeches to his loyal soldiers, Saw has proved that he does not need the backing of the Rebel Alliance, and simply needs his love for revolution to stay on top.
