A Star Wars Battlefront 2 developer has said he and his ex-colleagues "want to get the band back together" for a third game. Star Wars Battlefront 2 is currently experiencing a huge player resurgence as fans are doing all they can to bring attention to the 2017 shooter, hoping that EA will bring the series back to life. After finding huge success in the early 2000s, EA rebooted Star Wars Battlefront in 2015, followed by a sequel in 2017.

While Star Wars Battlefront 2 initially received massive backlash from the community due to its loot boxes and microtransactions, EA managed to turn things around by the game's full launch by overhauling its progression system and removing microtransactions. The shooter now has over 57,000 player reviews on Steam with a "very positive" review rating. Although support for the title ended in 2020, players have recently been petitioning for EA to develop Star Wars Battlefront 3. The studio has shown no interest in developing a third installment, but a new petition calling for a third game has garnered almost 8,500 signatures in just a few days, showcasing the demand from players for another Battlefront title.

Star Wars Battlefront 2 Devs Want to "Get The Gang Back Together"

Shortly after the petition for Star Wars Battlefront 3 gained traction online, Star Wars Battlefront 2 saw a huge player resurgence, especially on Steam. The eight-year-old title has gone from averaging around 1,000 concurrent players to peaking at over 9,000 on the platform. With conversations surrounding a third entry continuing to take over the internet, a former developer at DICE has now expressed his interest in returning for another game. In a new comment on Reddit, Mats Helge Holm, a developer on 2015's Star Wars Battlefront and its 2017 sequel, said he and his ex-colleagues "want to get the gang back together."

The sudden increase in players is likely due to the season finale of Andor Season 2, which received rave reviews from fans. Andor star Muhannad Ben Amor, who plays Wilmon Paak in the series, has also backed requests for a third Star Wars Battlefront game. Shortly after word of a player resurgence made the rounds online, Amor took to Instagram and said, "Star Wars gotta give us Battlefront 3...ASAP." The actor then revealed that he had grown up with the original Battlefront 2 and proved that he was a true veteran of the series with almost 470 hours in 2017's Star Wars Battlefront 2.

EA has yet to comment on whether or not it is aware of the sudden player spike, but the community shows no signs of stopping anytime soon. Youtuber Bombastic recently called upon fans to rally together and send a message to the Star Wars Battlefront studio by all playing the game on Saturday, May 24. The hope is that if enough players jump into Star Wars Battlefront 2 on the same day, EA will see that there is a high demand for the series and green-light a third entry.

Unfortunately, even a massive player resurgence may not be enough for EA to give the go-ahead on a third Star Wars Battlefront game. Developers DICE reportedly pitched Star Wars Battlefront 3 to EA after the 2015 reboot and its 2017 sequel, but the studio supposedly rejected a third entry due to licensing costs.
