Star Wars Battlefront fans hoping for a third game now have something to look forward to, as a fan-made mod is now available to download. Over the years, the wait for more Star Wars Battlefront has persisted, with Battlefront 2 recently turning eight years old. EA has kept tight-lipped about future Battlefront games, if there are any, but this fan-made mod could help scratch the itch for more Star Wars content.
The first Battlefront game was released back in 2004, with its sequel arriving in 2005. Since then, the series has been rebooted with 2015's Battlefront and 2017's Battlefront 2. Ever since the latest entry, there has been hope for a third Battlefront game. Rumors about Battlefront 3 have popped up occasionally through the years, but none of them have yet come to fruition. As the wait grows longer, some Battlefront fans may have begun to lose hope for another game, but this fan-made mod looks like it's the next best thing at the moment.
The Unwritten Rules of Star Wars Battlefront 2 Explained
EA's Star Wars Battlefront 2 is in the midst of a resurgence, and both new and returning players might want a refresher on some unwritten rules.
Fan-Made Battlefront 3 Mod Finally Brings Players New Star Wars Content
Aptly named Battlefront 3, the mod is now available on Nexus Mods. The Alpha version of the mod was originally uploaded back in May 2025, and the team behind the project is planning on adding more content in the future. Made for Battlefront 2, the Battlefront 3 mod adds 22 new lightsaber users, 3 maps, and an extra 4th character ability that can be customized. Battlefront 3's development may never happen, and if that's the case, then the fan-made mod can at least bring something new to the table.
This mod also adds new movement mechanics: Force Flips and Airborne Force Speed.

Battlefront 2's character options are solid, but there is definitely room for more, and Battlefront 3 finally brings some great new faces to the lineup. Players who download the mod will have 11 Jedi and 11 Sith to choose from, with each side featuring both classic names and characters who are deeper cuts. These aren't the only new characters featured in the mod, though. The project's developers have shared a roadmap revealing upcoming plans, and there are some exciting names on the list. New heroes planned for the future include Poe Dameron, Cassian Andor, and Jyn Erso, while upcoming villains will include Jango Fett, Moff Gideon, and Greedo.
The three new maps featured in the mod are Mustafar, Petranaki Arena, and the Jedi Temple.
Since the mod is still a work in progress, Battlefront 3 does still have some bugs and glitches to be aware of. For example, Darth Revan, Kit Fisto, Plo Koon, and Aayla Secura are unable to block shots from blasters, but devs are actively working on fixing the issue. Despite the small problems, this may be the only chance that gamers get at experiencing what Battlefront 3 could be like. There's no way to know which characters will be in Battlefront 3 if EA ever green-lights it, but this mod adds a lot of characters that players have been wanting for a long time.
This may not be the update that a lot of Battlefront fans were hoping for, but it's still an exciting way to make Battlefront 2 feel fresh. The Star Wars Battlefront games have maintained a strong following, and that will hopefully push EA to eventually make another game. However, only time will tell.
