At its core, Star Wars is about family. Whether focused on the Skywalker Saga or the adventures of Din Djarin and his adopted son Grogu, the Star Wars universe is comprised of strong familial ties that last generations. But to develop those bonds, there’s got to be some romance - and there’s plenty of that in the galaxy.

Han Solo and Princess Leia were the original romance of the Star Wars franchise, but there have been many since then - including the evolution of their own relationship. From shows like Andor and animated series such as Star Wars: Rebels and Star Wars: The Clone Wars, there are many relationships in the cosmos that tug at the heartstrings of Star Wars fans.

9 Vel Sartha & Cinta Kaz

Vel Sarth and Cinta Kaz were among the many characters introduced in Andor, which became an unexpected success in the Star Wars series canon. Vel and Cinta form a small group of rebels working together to thwart the Galactic Empire, with Vel leading them and Cinta acting as their medic and healer.

Thankfully, viewers weren’t lumbered with a “will they won’t they” story for Vel and Cinta, as their relationship is established from the get-go. Instead, fans are treated to seeing the depths of their romance and how their bond helps them in their mission to defeat the Galactic Empire.

8 Ezra Bridger & Sabine Wren

Ezra Bridger and Sabine Wren are finally being brought to the live-action Star Wars universe in Ahsoka, meaning fans may get to see their relationship develop further than it did in Star Wars: Rebels. In the animated series, it was clear that Ezra had a crush on Sabine, but their bond stuck to being more familial than romantic.

Ahsoka takes place sometime after Star Wars: Rebels, meaning that the series could see Sabine and Ahsoka continuing their mission to find Ezra, who sacrificed himself to trap Grand Admiral Thrawn in hyperspace. Or, it could have already happened, as Thrawn has reemerged, as shown in the Ahsoka trailer, and Sabine is seen looking at a holoprojector of Ezra.

7 Han Solo & Qi'ra

Han Solo and Qi'ra

Before Princess Leia, Han Solo found love with his childhood friend Qi’ra on their home planet of Corellia. The pair survived together on the streets before Qi’ra was captured by the White Worms, a gang she and Han were working for. He never returned despite promising to return for her as he escaped the planet.

In the brief time shown of them as a couple in Solo: A Star Wars Story, it's clear that they had a strong camaraderie together as well as romantic feelings. Their sentiments for each other don’t go away, despite Han discovering Qi’ra’s new position as a lieutenant in the crime syndicate Crimson Dawn the next time they meet. Qi’ra even kills Dryden Vos, to save Han.

6 Kanan Jarrus & Hera Syndulla

Having survived Order 66 during the Clone Wars, Jedi Knight Kanan Jarrus joined the revolutionary Twi’lek operative Hera Syndulla and her rebel group, the Spectres. They soon took the Force-sensitive Ezra Bridger under their wing, in addition to the Mandalorian Sabine Wren, and traveled the galaxy fighting against the Galactic Empire.

In the early seasons of Star Wars Rebels, the romantic connotations between Kanan and Hera were hard to deny. However, their relationship wasn’t fully shown until Season 4, ultimately ending in Kanan sacrificing himself for Hera and their unborn son, Jacen.

5 Bail & Breha Organa

Adoptive parents to Princess Leia, Bail, and Breha Organa made her into the strong and independent hero she became. Bail and Breah doted on each other and their daughter, letting Leia be who she wanted to be as a young princess - within reason.

Bail and Breha were outspoken and strong-willed in their duties as rulers of the planet Alderaan, and stood up against the Galactic Empire. Though they sadly perished when the Death Star destroyed the planet, their sacrifice was never forgotten, and neither was the love they shared for each other, Leia, and their people.

4 Obi-Wan Kenobi & Satine Kryze

Satine Kryze and Obi-Wan Kenobi

During the Clone Wars, Obi-Wan Kenobi had a secret relationship of sorts with Satine Kryze, the Duchess of Kalevala and leader of the New Mandalorians on Mandalore. While never officially a couple, the love and affection they shared are hard to deny.

The Jedi Order forbade love and attachment, and Obi-Wan stayed loyal to its code. But that didn’t stop him from caring deeply for Satine, and the pair would eventually confess their love for one another after Satine was taken hostage by Senator Merrick. Like a lot of romance in the Star Wars franchise, Obi-Wan and Satine’s relationship ended in tragedy when the Duchess was force choked by Darth Maul and killed by the Darksaber as Obi-Wan helplessly watched.

3 Anakin Skywalker & Padme Amidala

The drama and conflicts within the Star Wars universe almost always link back to one relationship in particular – the union of Anakin Skywalker and Padme Amidala. As a young couple, they were the epitome of true love. The adoration they shared for one another was pure, but Anakin’s fear of losing his soulmate would ultimately lead him on a path of destruction to the Dark Side.

Despite Anakin’s transformation and the evil acts he committed, Padme always believed there was still good in him – even when she was lying on her deathbed. Eventually, this good side would be shown to their son, Luke Skywalker, by sacrificing his life for him at the end of Return of the Jedi.

2 Han Solo & Princess Leia

Obviously, Han’s most beloved (and unlikely) relationship is with Princess Leia. What started with annoyance and bickering quickly turned to love, and the couple soon became the most well-known romance in Star Wars history.

While they had their ups and downs, particularly when their son, Ben Solo, turned to the dark side, their love never faltered, and they always had each other’s back. Fans could always trust that a scene between Han and Leia could be both emotional and hilarious, with Han’s witty one-liners and Leia’s imaginative insults.

1 Frog Lady & Her Husband

Frog Lady and her husband

The love story between Frog Lady and her husband captured the hearts of fans during the second season of The Mandalorian. Appearing in “Chapter 10: The Passenger,” the amphibian enlists Din Djarin’s help in escorting her to the planet Trask, so her husband can fertilize her last batch of eggs.

Aside from Grogu taking a liking to them as a snack, The Mandalorian accomplishes the task, and the couple provides one of the most heartwarming reunions of the franchise. Though viewers have yet to see the couple return, the knowledge that they are safe on Trask raising their frog babies is satisfying enough.
