Fortnite has built its legacy through major high-profile crossovers, and one of its most notable has been its series of Star Wars collaborations. Over the years, Star Wars has maintained a consistent presence in Fortnite, but this partnership recently reached new heights.

Earlier this month, Fortnite launched a Star Wars-focused mini-season titled Galactic Battle that brings the massive franchise front and center. From the iconic Darth Vader to even Darth Jar Jar, the Galactic Battle event adds some of Star Wars' biggest heavy-hitters. It's proven to be an exciting way for Fortnite to one-up its yearly Star Wars content, but it also makes a strong case for the sci-fi franchise to get its own battle royale game.

Fortnite Shows How a Star Wars-Focused Battle Royale Game Could Work

Despite Being an Old Genre, Star Wars Could Breathe New Life Into Battle Royales

Once Fortnite skyrocketed to success, many developers were inspired to follow suit, marking the beginning of years' worth of battle royale titles. Of course, reaching the same heights as Fortnite has been a nearly impossible task, especially with the partnerships Epic Games boasts, but that hasn't stopped other games from trying. By now, the battle royale genre is old news, so a Star Wars game set within the genre may be a little bit too late, though it could still be an exciting experience.

Fortnite's Galactic Battle is scheduled to officially end on June 7.

What Would a Star Wars Battle Royale Look Like?

  • Jedi vs. Sith mode
  • Rebels vs the Empire mode

These options would likely be the two possibilities if such a game were to be made. Of course, Rebels, Jedi, Sith, and Stormtroopers could all be featured in the same match, too. However, a Jedi vs. The Sith or Rebels vs. The Empire approach could also offer a little bit more balance. Other modes that focus on piloting X-Wings and TIE Fighters in galactic show-downs may add even more to a battle royale spin-off. Two squads of 50 players each going head-to-head in lightsaber fights or flying face-offs have the potential to be wonderfully chaotic. Some features of Fortnite's Star Wars event may be divisive, but there is still solid groundwork set for a fresh battle royale title.

Players need to gain 1,280,000 XP in order to unlock the Darth Jar Jar skin. After that, players can purchase the cosmetic for 1,500 V-Bucks.

Thankfully, There is Already a Strong Multiplayer Star Wars Option

Star Wars Battlefront 2 has seen a big surge in players as of late. Of course, the game isn't a battle royale title, but its multiplayer mode can potentially scratch that itch after Fortnite's Galactic Battle event comes to an end. It's been eight years since Battlefront 2 hit the scene, but the fact that the game still manages to bring players in is a solid sign that there's a market for more multiplayer Star Wars games.

There has even been a petition made for a Star Wars Battlefront 3. Of course, this doesn't guarantee that a third chapter is ever going to happen, but only time will tell. Regardless, the Star Wars brand is beginning to branch out to compelling genres that could pave the way for a potential battle royale, even if the genre has become largely dated.

Next up is Star Wars Zero Company, which brings Star Wars into the tactical turn-based space. After that, many are expecting Star Wars Jedi 3. This remains to be seen, but regardless, there could still be room for a Star Wars battle royale game in the future if Fortnite's crossover continues to be successful.
