Star Wars actor Ahmed Best, who portrayed Jar Jar Binks, expressed some interest in doing more work for Disney as he sets his eye on a potential addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Blue Marvel.
Best is best known for his Star Wars role in the prequel trilogy as the much-hated character Jar Jar Binks. Despite a stellar performance bringing the alien to life, the backlash got so bad that it made the star suicidal and flatlined his career for a good while. Best has been much better and more active recently, even returning to the Star Wars franchise to play the role of a Jedi on the small screen.
RUMOR: Deadpool 3 Bringing Back Villain Involved In Infamous X-Men Scene
The Deadpool 3 cast is rumored to include a Marvel character remembered for one of the more infamous scenes in the X-Men movie franchise.
While Best is not considering portraying Jar Jar as a Sith Lord in Star Wars as dictated by one popular fan theory, there is one role the tenured actor might be convinced to lend his skills to. Taking to Instagram to share fan art by another user, Best penned the caption, “I think I would make a dope #bluemarvel @kevinfeige @marvel @marvelstudios. As my mother would say #manifesting LOL. #starwars #jedi #kelleranbeq #prequels #themarvels #jarjarbinks #themandalorian illustration by @dieselfunk.” The fanart shows a superb rendition of Best as Blue Marvel, with many commenters expressing admiration for the art and Best.
Blue Marvel is one of Marvel's more obscure characters, lacking the tenure and mass of stories that more prominent heroes have due to only being created in the late 2000s. Despite this, Blue Marvel's interesting powers and origins as a living antimatter reactor made from a lab experiment gone wrong (and his comic book links to Luke Cage) have made the character popular with more immersed Marvel Comics fans. While it seems fitting given the lovely fanart, Best has also signaled interest in a Fantastic Four role, an appointment a few fans took to the comments to support.
The impressive fanart and Best's interest in the character are appealing. However, there’s little chance that a Blue Marvel appearance is happening anytime soon in live-action. Many of Disney's most recent attempts to deviate from the select few heroes that are already popular amongst general audiences have not been encouraging, with even The Marvels showing alarmingly low pre-sale numbers by MCU standards despite Carol Danvers being an established Infinity Saga era hero and Ms. Marvel's extensive Disney Plus series exposure. It seems that it’s simply too late for Best to get his wish in the current MCU.
However, with recent reports suggesting that Avengers: Secret Wars is Kevin Feige's chosen reboot point, Best might be able to come in and do his thing as the obscure hero in a new MCU, with a completely organic build-up of new introductions similar to the first two MCU phases. Fans will have to wait and see whether that pans out or Best’s wishes go unanswered.
