Over 1,000 Star Wars Outlaws fans have signed a petition asking Ubisoft to reconsider the sequel. Star Wars Outlaws, developed by Massive Entertainment, was released in 2024 to mostly positive reviews. An open world Star Wars game is something that many fans have wanted for years, and while it certainly has its defenders, the game unfortunately did not meet commercial expectations.
Star Wars Outlaws did not perform like Ubisoft expected it to, and that seems to have halted development on any sequels. While unconfirmed, it's rumored that Star Wars Outlaws 2 has been canceled by Ubisoft. While this may not be surprising, it has upset some fans that enjoyed the original game and want to continue Kay Vess' adventures. These individuals have signed a petition asking Ubisoft to reconsider its apparent decision to cancel Star Wars Outlaws 2.
Star Wars Outlaws: Why You Should Start Over in 2025
After a rockier launch and muted reception, Star Wars Outlaws has heavily course corrected, and is well worth diving into anew this year.
Star Wars Outlaws 2 Petition Has Over 1,000 Signatures and Counting
The Change.org petition has been signed by over 1,000 fans at the time of this writing. The petition points out that Star Wars Outlaws has improved significantly since launch thanks to updates and DLC expansions. It insists that there is "real interest in a sequel" and hopes Ubisoft will move forward with one. Ubisoft has not responded to the petition or the rumors that Star Wars Outlaws 2 has been canceled at the time of this writing.
While it earned mostly positive reviews from critics at launch, Star Wars Outlaws did have some problems. There were complaints about its overbearing stealth system, for example, but that was addressed in a post-launch update. It's fair to say that a Star Wars Outlaws sequel could build on what came before and learn from the original's missteps to deliver something even better out of the gate, like what Ubisoft did with the jump from the first Assassin's Creed to Assassin's Creed 2, so it would be a shame if that never happened.
Even though there may never be a proper sequel to Star Wars Outlaws, the game's journey isn't over quite yet. Star Wars Outlaws is coming to the Nintendo Switch 2 in September, and it will be very interesting to see how that version of the game performs. If there are strong sales for Star Wars Outlaws on the Switch 2, perhaps that could be what truly gets Ubisoft to reconsider the project. In the meantime, Star Wars Outlaws fans disappointed by the rumors that the sequel has been canceled can sign the petition and hope Ubisoft has a change of heart.
