Ubisoft and Massive Entertainment's Star Wars Outlaws is one of 2024's most anticipated titles, introducing players to what it claims is the very first open-world Star Wars game ever made. Rather than playing as a Jedi, as they do in most Star Wars games, players will be in control of outlaw Kay Vess for the duration of Star Wars Outlaws' story. She won't be alone though, as faithful companions like her axolotl-like alien pet Nix will be joining her on her journey.
Nix is much more than a lovable furry pet in Star Wars Outlaws, although there seem to be some affinity mechanics teased in the gameplay footage released by Ubisoft and Massive Entertainment. Instead, Kay and Nix work together throughout Star Wars Outlaws to progress through each stage of their adventure, with Nix largely acting as an adorable extension of Kay. As they make their way through what seems to be a rather sizable world for Star Wars Outlaws, players will be able to command Nix to perform a wide variety of actions that can benefit Kay in battle and exploration.

Star Wars Outlaws' Nix Has an Ample Number of Skills
Nix Has Several Skills to Help Kay in Stealth and Combat
While Star Wars Outlaws is an open-world adventure and therefore encourages exploration, at the heart of its gameplay is stealth and combat. Judging by what has been revealed so far, players will have plenty of opportunities to choose whether to advance through scenarios completely undetected or to run in guns blazing. No matter which method of progression players choose, they will have their faithful companion Nix at their side, who comes with a healthy set of skills that can help in a variety of situations.
There are six stealth and combat skills revealed so far for Nix:
- Attack
- Distract
- Detonate
- Sense
- Trap
- Drop Object
Nix's Attack skill sees him leaping onto the enemy's face, possibly dealing damage to them but most importantly blinding them and allowing Kay an opportunity to finish the job. When players command Nix to use his Distract ability, the furry axolotl will run up to an enemy, flop over onto his back, and pretend to play dead while the enemy investigates. Players can even choose where Nix will play dead, which should make this skill particularly handy during scenarios that demand stealth progression. Nix's Sense skill allows him to detect nearby enemies for Kay, similar to Assassin's Creed's Eagle Vision ability.
With Nix's Detonate skill, players can command him to detonate an enemy's holstered grenade, whereas his Trap ability can set a dangerous trap for enemies to fall into — like a canister that will explode upon their approach. Furthermore, players can use Nix's Drop Object skill to drop large objects onto the enemy's head. It's possible this particular skill will also be helpful during Star Wars Outlaws' open-world exploration.
Nix Has Skills to Help Kay Retrieve Items or Interact With Hard-to-Reach Objects
Nix has several other skills apart from his stealth and combat abilities that should help players during exploration and advancement through Star Wars Outlaws' more linearly designed levels. While one of these skills can be used while players are using Star Wars Outlaws' stealth to move through groups of enemies, they are nonetheless non-combat abilities.
Nix's currently revealed non-combat skills are as follows:
- Fetch
- Steal
- Interact
Nix's Fetch and Steal skills are nearly identical, in that they see Nix retrieving items for Kay. However, Fetch is specifically used on items that aren't already held by NPCs, whereas Steal lifts items from enemies' pockets. Interact, on the other hand, simply sees Nix interacting with an object for Kay, like a switch or console across the room. There are likely more skills for Nix in Star Wars Outlaws, but these are the skills revealed so far. Based on what has already been revealed, it seems Nix will be quite a helpful companion.
