Star Wars Outlaws is a new open-world game set in the Star Wars universe. It takes place somewhere after Star Wars Episode 5: The Empire Strikes Back which makes sense since it seemed like the criminal underbelly of the galaxy was gaining power in that movie. It starts a bit linearly though as Kay Vess, the protagonist, has to scrape together some money to escape Cantonica.

How Long is Star Wars Outlaws?

The main story of Star Wars Outlaws is surprisingly short, but the ridiculous amount of side content more than makes up for this.

Once she does, that’s when the real game begins and it can be hard to know what to do first. Where are all the cool things to see and what missions will get players the best gear? Well, let’s answer those Star Wars Outlaws questions briefly.

6 Complete The Story Up To Underworld

The Best Way To Unlock Mechanics

Talking to Eleera in Star Wars Outlaws

The game begins fairly linearly when players are on Cantonica. Once they get their ship and crash land on Toshara, it becomes more of an open-world adventure but players shouldn’t wander around quite yet. They should heed Waka’s advice and head straight to the city of Mirogana. After they complete a few tasks, ending with the Underworld mission, they will be given a choice.

In Star Wars Outlaws, players can either give Eleera the data to become favored by Crimson Dawn or they can save the information for The Pyke Syndicate. Logically, Eleera is the best option here which will help with future missions close at hand. After making this choice then the world will truly open up leading to more side quests and even harder choices.

5 Unlock Kay’s First Health Upgrade

Understanding The Ability System

The ability system in the game works like an achievement system on consoles. By playing the game a certain way, passive and active abilities will unlock. The absolute first ability players should work toward is called Armored Undershirt which can increase Kay’s health in Star Wars Outlaws from three bars to four bars.

There are 21 main story quests in Star Wars Outlaws, with each one typically taking around half an hour to complete.

Unlocking Armored Undershirt requires two upgrade components: Coraseweve and Ironweave. Coraseweve is fairly common and diligent players should be able to pick up enough in the main missions if they explore. Ironweave is rare to find randomly but it can be bought in Mirogana like at Berek Keehro’s shop around Makal’s Gambling Parlor. Once all components are collected, players can activate Armored Undershirt in the menu to create the permanent health upgrade.

4 Feed Nix

Equip Food On The Ship For Benefits

Getting Che Mosska in a food shop

There are other shops players should visit in Mirogana before venturing off into the great unknown. If players look at their map, they should be able to see a couple of food vendors, and one in particular will supply players with Che Mosska. Going to this shop will trigger a mini-game wherein players can feed Nix with Quick Time Event prompts in Star Wars Outlaws. If players pass the test, they will get the recipe for Che Mosska to forever feed it to Nix.

It won’t boost stats like other cooking in RPGs including Monster Hunter World or Final Fantasy 15. Instead, players can fill Nix’s dish back at the ship which will give him a stat boost or skill while that food is essentially equipped. For example, Che Mosska will cause Nix to kick grenades away from Kay in a scuffle. So, once Che Mosska and other dishes are found on Toshara, players should go back to their ship in Jaunta’s Hope.

3 Investigate The Shipjacker Workshop

Practice Stealth And Earn Fast Loot

Besides Factions, players will have to deal with Imperial Troops. Fighting them naturally or passing on their land will raise a warning level in Star Wars Outlaws sort of like a wanted level in a Grand Theft Auto game. There are other enemy types besides these major ones though that will not affect the player if they should fail making them less scary.

One great example can be found just south of Mirogana at a location called Shipjacker Workshop. Here, a random group of space pirates has a compound with a ton of loot in it. Players can get great materials in this facility and they can get good practice with the shooting and stealth gameplay mechanics without having to worry about angering the Imperials or the many Factions.

2 Track Down The Slicer And The Mechanic

Gain Two More Ability Allies

Selo Rovak’s shop in Star Wars Outlaws

After wrapping up the Underworld mission, Danka has another job for Kay involving getting her first Module for her pistol. Once this task is complete, Danka will reward Kay with information about two dealers in the area. The first leads to Selo Rovak who can help fix up her Speeder and the second involves Aila Bren who who can provide Kay with better hacking equipment in Star Wars Outlaws.

Merchant Requests are an easy way to exchange valuables for useful cosmetics in Star Wars Outlaws; here's how to unlock them.

Both characters lead to some fun but challenging missions along with rewards. The other nice thing about meeting Selo and Aila is that they will provide players with two new ability trees for players to level up. Treasure Hunter is a good one from Selo which can point out chests in the world and Lightfooted is an advantageous ability from Aila which can deafen Kay’s footsteps.

1 Ride Around Toshara

Unlock Secrets Through Exploration

Driving a speeder in Star Wars Outlaws

The final tip is more loose but it demands to be said. Star Wars Outlaws is an open-world game and it should be played as such. As great as the main story missions are, it’s also fun to get lost in a new Star Wars video game world.

So take that Speeder and start cruising around Toshara for a good couple of hours. Players will probably hear some chatter from NPCs about hidden objects or even Imperial distress calls about pirate encampments. There’s no need to explore Toshara with a fine-toothed comb though because there are other planets to see in Star Wars Outlaws.
