Star Wars Outlaws has received an update on the Nintendo Switch 2 for September. This new update has fixed a number of issues that were present at Star Wars Outlaws' launch on the system, as well as improving and fine-tuning some details of the game.
Star Wars Outlaws arrived on Nintendo Switch 2 two years after its initial release, and the game is in an awkward place right now. Ubisoft didn't meet sales targets for Star Wars Outlaws in its original launch, and in the months leading up to the Switch 2 version's launch, rumors have indicated that a sequel to the game may have been canceled outright.
Star Wars Outlaws: Why You Should Start Over in 2025
After a rockier launch and muted reception, Star Wars Outlaws has heavily course corrected, and is well worth diving into anew this year.
Star Wars Outlaws landed on the Nintendo Switch 2 on September 4, and on September 8, the game received a new update. This update largely fixes bugs, improves visuals, and makes tweaks to the UI and system performance. A few of the issues that were addressed may have impacted gameplay for players, including in the early hours of the game. An issue where NPCs wouldn't spawn while Kay was being chased on Toshara in the Crashed quest have been fixed. Kay is less likely to get stuck while traversing environments, hiding and detection while hiding in the grass on Akiva have both been fine-tuned, and stability improvements and fixes have been made.
In terms of visuals, visual quality has been improved when using binoculars or moving quickly through the world, reducing pop-in. Flickering with smoke and lighting have been reduced, shadows have been improved, and other visual fixes have been made. Camera movement has been fine-tuned, UI issues like incorrect controller image types and directional button prompts being displayed when switching between Joy-Cons and a Pro Controller have been fixed, and the gadget inventory HUD now correctly resizes when using handheld preset custom scaling settings. Some minor issues in the Wild Card Story Pack and A Pirate's Fortune Story Pack have also been fixed.
If Star Wars Outlaws performs well for Ubisoft on Nintendo Switch 2, it's possible that the game could receive a second chance for a sequel. Fixing any issues in the game and ensuring players have a good experience will boost these odds, especially after players were initially worried when PAX attendees weren't allowed to record gameplay footage of Star Wars Outlaws just days prior to its launch, and some claimed the game played poorly there.
