Star Wars: Squadrons, which was finally revealed today, sets itself apart from EA's other titles using the Star Wars license as a smaller, budget title, priced only at $40. Despite this, and unlike 2016's Star Wars: Battlefront, the first-person flight combat title will feature a single-player campaign. Following the trend of recent single-player campaigns from EA's Star Wars title, this story will likely also be part of Disney's official Star Wars canon timeline.

The game is positioning itself between the events of Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens of the Star Wars timeline, a part of the Star Wars chronology left largely unexplored following Disney's rebooting of the canon timeline in 2012.

Thanks to this, and following in the footsteps of the likes of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, Star Wars: Squadrons is sure to be filled with cameos and appearances from characters spanning the entire Star Wars franchise, especially given that the rest of the game will cover all three eras of the 'Skywalker Saga'. In fact, eagle eyed Star Wars fans have noticed a cameo of a beloved character hidden in plain sight in the newly released trailer for Star Wars: Squadrons already.

During a scene showcasing the Rebel side of the story, the beloved Star Wars Rebels character Hera Syndulla can be seen briefly. It is likely that Hera's role in the story will not be minor as during the events of Star Wars Squadrons, Hera is a general of the Rebel Alliance's air force.

Hera is an experienced pilot who pilots a ship called The Ghost, and, during the events of Star Wars Rebels, she shares a romantic relationship with the Jedi warrior Kanan Jarrus and later gives birth to his son, Jacen Syndulla. During the events of the show her and her crew go up against the likes of Grand Moff Tarkin, Grand Admiral Thrawn, Darth Maul, and even Darth Vader, cementing her as one of the greatest heroes in the Rebel Alliance.

Hera's ship, The Ghost, has made a number of cameos in films such as Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, however, this is the first time the character has been depicted in a more realistic art style, as before this she only appeared in the animated series Star Wars Rebels.  Featuring a cameo in the first ever trailer leaves the door open to all sorts of potential cameos and guest appearances in Star Wars: Squadrons, both from beloved characters and ships spanning the entire franchise, including the films, graphic novels, and TV series.

Star Wars: Squadrons will launch on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on October 2, 2020.
