A new rumor has suggested that an upcoming Star Wars announcement could have some connection to The Old Republic. However, many are confused about whether this is in reference to The Old Republic, BioWare's successful Star Wars MMO, or the long-awaited Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic remake, which has been stuck in development hell for some time now.

A few days ago, a rumor emerged that a new Star Wars game could appear at The Game Awards, with the suggestion that it's not going to be the already-announced Zero Company or Eclipse. This led to speculation about what the game could be, including the likes of Star Wars Jedi 3, or potentially even Amy's Hennig's untitled game. There were valid reasons for both, but others felt it could be Saber Interactive's remake of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. The game was first announced in 2021, but news about the game since has only come in brief whispers and rumors, so a re-reveal could make a lot of sense.

The potential cancellation of Star Wars Outlaws 2 could spell an unfortunate trend for the future of the video game industry.

Leaker Says New Star Wars Announcement Ends With The Old Republic

Kurakasis on X, who was the first to raise the potential of a Star Wars-related announcement at The Game Awards, followed up their original post to confirm that the title of the game set to be confirmed ends in The Old Republic. This sent many gamers in the replies into a frenzy, with most immediately assuming that they're referring to the KOTOR remake. In terms of hype levels, bringing back the Knights of the Old Republic remake publicly for the first time in years would certainly be worthy of the stage at The Game Awards. And given that Saber Interactive continues to confirm that the KOTOR remake is still in development, the timeline for a reveal could be about right.

Not all fans were as optimistic that the announcement is definitely related to Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, though. Some were quick to point out to Kurakasis that BioWare's MMO, Star Wars: The Old Republic, would also fit the bill for this. The game continues to receive updates from developer Broadsword, so new content can't be ruled out there, either. Some even suggested it could be a possible console port for the 2011 MMO, but whether that would be big enough news to warrant an announcement at The Game Awards is up for debate.

There was one other fan theory that popped up in response to Kurakasis, and it doesn't sound too far-fetched. There have been rumors for a long time that a Total War Star Wars title is in development at Creative Assembly, but nothing concrete has been confirmed about the game. And with no name or era confirmed for the rumored game, some raised the possibility that a Total War Star Wars set during the Old Republic could feasibly have that title. The only point against this is that the game wasn't announced during Total War's recent 25th Anniversary Showcase livestream, which would have been a good place to reveal such a project. Still, this is all a rumor, and there may not be any new Star Wars game announced during The Game Awards at all. It's always important to take these rumors with a pinch of salt, as exciting as they may be.

Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic Remake Revan full body

If the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic remake does appear, it will be the game's first official appearance since 2021. There were some KOTOR remake leaks earlier this year, although they do appear to represent Aspyr's work on the game before Saber Interactive took over development in 2022. It is perhaps the most anticipated Star Wars project at the moment, and it would definitely be good to see that it's still coming along well, even if it's taking its time.
