Some Stardew Valley players are reportedly having performance issues after the most recent update released. Gamers recently got the long-awaited 1.6 update for Stardew Valley on consoles and mobiles, but it seems that there are some hiccups that its developer is in the process of identifying and resolving.

Stardew Valley fans have generally been thrilled with the update so far. While those on PC have had access to the 1.6 update for quite some time now, the new 1.6.9 release actually added a few minor things to the game for them, as well, like new portraits for Pelican Town residents like Shane and Sam. However, it seems that there are some issues plaguing the new launch that haven't yet been patched.

Stardew Valley Update Adds Secret Feature to Mobile Version

The recent Stardew Valley update adds an interesting secret feature to the mobile version of the popular farming simulator game.

ConcernedApe, Stardew Valley's developer, issued a PSA to fans that if they're experiencing performance issues in their game, that they should check any pets they have. Pets can wear hats in normal gameplay, but for some reason there seems to be an error that's connected to them having hats. For the interim, ConcernedApe says to take any hats off of one's pets. This can be accomplished by selecting a hat in one's inventory and then clicking on their pet. The hat the Stardew Valley pet is wearing will be removed and placed in the user's inventory. At the moment, horses and sea urchins don't seem to be impacted by this bug.

Stardew Valley Fans React to Bug and Its "Lore"

Some Stardew Valley fans have noted that they did seem to experience this issue, as their frame rates dropped after putting a hat on a pet. The exact reason why the hats are causing an issue is unclear, but ConcernedApe shared a "lore" reason for it. The in-game explanation is that a strange rash is happening to animals in Zuzu City, and those in Pelican Town just want to make sure that pets' ears "can breathe" for a few days. This amusing explanation follows on the heels of ConcernedApe stating that Stardew Valley's disappearing chicken bug is due to coyotes being on the farm.

While putting hats on pets is one of the features that gamers without access to the 1.6 update have been waiting for, they likely won't have to wait much longer for a fix. ConcernedApe has already patched some Stardew Valley 1.6 issues, so it likely won't take long for this problem to also get fixed. For now, Stardew Valley players will just need to be patient and enjoy everything else that Stardew Valley's 1.6 update has to offer in the meantime.
