Making outfits in Stardew Valley is many players' favorite activity in the game. The variety of different clothing items allows players to play the role of fashion designer for their playable character, mixing and matching shirts, pants, and hats to create unique outfits. Players can tailor most of these items themselves using items they find around the world.
Some items stand out thanks to their silly design, while other articles of clothing are horror-themed or mystical. Exploring the game's most interesting clothing items can help both Stardew Valley beginners and dedicated players find the perfect outfit to express their personality.
Stardew Valley: How To Get Every Obelisk
Obelisks let Stardew Valley players quickly warp to plenty of areas. Here's how to build them all.
Updated January 19, 2025, by Usama Ali: The magic of Stardew Valley lies in its ability to let players fully immerse themselves in their farming adventure. From their clothing to the names of their pets, players can customize everything and truly make the farm their own. For farmers who want to add some personality to their wardrobe, Emily’s sewing machine opens up a whole world of creativity. With just a piece of Cloth and almost any item you can think of, players can design a bunch of clothing items to suit their moods. The combination of these materials determines the final appearance and players have the freedom to create anything they desire. This guide has now been updated with some more of the coolest clothing items players can craft in Stardew Valley after the recent 1.6 update.
How To Craft Clothes
To craft clothing, players will need various items. First, players should prioritize buying an animal that gives wool, either rabbits or sheep. Then, they should work on gaining access to a Loom, which is available at level 7 of Farming. After this, players can craft cloth by placing wool in the loom.
Once players acquire cloth, players will get a cutscene with Emily that talks about her sewing machine in her home. After this time, players can start using her machine to tailor or dye items. If players complete the "Rock Rejuvenation" Story Board quest, which has players giving Emily 1 Ruby, 1 Topaz, 1 Emerald, 1 Jade, and 1 Amethyst, players will get rewarded with their own sewing machine to craft various clothing items.
1 Totem Mask
All The Totem With None Of The Warping
- Cloth x1
- Any Warp Totem x1
Warp Totems are a classic item in Stardew Valley that can be used to get around Pelican Town and can be incredibly useful when trying to avoid passing out. There's also a Rain Totem, which can be used to change the weather. These adorable Totems can be found in various places, and crafted when a high foraging level is reached.
To make this cool
Totem Mask, players will simply need to put Cloth and any type of Warp Totem in the Sewing Machine. There are a few different ways to obtain Warp Totems if players aren't yet at a high foraging level. A Warp Totem: Desert can be purchased from the Desert Trade, although it costs ten iridium bars. A Warp Totem: Island can be bought from the Volcano Dwarf Trader on floor 5 of the Volcano Dungeon on Ginger Island.
2 Goodnight Shirt
For Sleepyhead Stardew Enthusiasts
- Cloth x1
- Lunarite x1
The Goodnight Shirt is one of Stardew's coziest options. There aren't many clothes available that are best for bedtime, but for anybody who wants to share their enthusiasm for the nighttime, this is the t-shirt to do it. It's also a great option for those who prefer a darker, more emo style — particularly those who might be interested in romancing a certain black-haired bachelor.
To make this night sky shirt, players will need to obtain the rather rare mineral Lunarite. It might be challenging for players to get their hands on it, since it's only dropped in Frozen and Omni Geodes. Luckily, apart from donating it to the museum, this is the only thing Lunarite is useful for, so players only have to come across it once to make this shirt.
3 Shrimp Enthusiast Shirt
Repping Shrimp Couture
- Cloth x1
- Shrimp Cocktail x1
For any fans of fishing, or shrimp in general, there's a Stardew Valley shirt ready to demonstrate the player's passion for crustaceans: the Shrimp Enthusiast Shirt. This lovely pale pink shirt has a shrimp design in the center that would look cute on any farmer.
Making the Shrimp Enthusiast Shirt is easy for any fishing fans since it requires some Cloth and a Shrimp Cocktail. A Shrimp Cocktail needs three ingredients: Tomato, Shrimp, and Wild Horseradish. Wild Horseradish can be foraged and grown in Spring, Tomatoes can be grown in Summer, and Shrimp can be caught in a crab pot. Cooking all this together will make a Shrimp Cocktail, and combined with Cloth in the sewing machine will make a Shrimp Enthusiast Shirt.
4 Witch Hat
Perfect For Casting A Spell on the Crowd
The
Witch Hat is a special headpiece in Stardew Valley that you can craft using a Golden Pumpkin and some Cloth. It’s a must-have accessory for anyone who wants to add a touch of magic to their wardrobe or celebrate the spooky season in style.
The
Golden Pumpkin is a rare item obtained by completing the maze during the Spirit's Eve festival on the 27th of Fall. Once players combine the Golden Pumpkin with Cloth at a sewing machine, either Emily's or the one you get from the "Rock Rejuvenation" special order. The Witch Hat cannot be sold, so once crafted, the player can keep and wear it whenever they want.
5 Red And Navy Tuxedo
Stylish Suits For Formal Events
Red Tuxedo
- Cloth x1
- Red Plate x1
Navy Tuxedo
- Cloth x1
- Rare Disc x1
Any gamers who want to show up to their wedding, or a festival, looking smart and respectable, Tuxedos are absolutely the right choice. Not only are they the perfect option to elevate any occasion, but they're available in two different colors. To create a Red Tuxedo, players will need Cloth and a Red Plate, and for the Navy Tuxedo, they'll need Cloth and a Rare Disc.
Despite the name, Rare Discs are not too difficult to come across. They can be dropped by Bats, Shadow Brutes, Spiders, and Shadow Shaman — and can be found in Fishing Treasure Chests. Making a Red Plate is even easier, and only takes one Red Cabbage and One Radish. Red Cabbage and Radishes can be grown in Summer.
6 Iridium Breastplate
A Shimmering Symbol of Strength
The Iridium Breastplate is a unique and eye-catching clothing item in Stardew Valley that will have players looking and feeling like a magical warrior. With its gleaming, metallic finish, this standout piece is perfect for anyone who wants to combine style and strength in their wardrobe.
As its name suggests, the Iridium Breastplate is crafted using Iridium Bars in Stardew Valley – one of the most valuable resources in the game. To craft this item, combine 1 Iridium Bar with a piece of Cloth at the sewing machine. The most guaranteed way to get Iridium Bars is to create them in a
Furnace using 5 Iridium Ore and 1 Coal.
The Iridium Breastplate is a purely cosmetic item in Stardew Valley and does not offer any extra defensive benefits.
7 Wearable Dwarf Helm
A Dwarven Dream
This cool headpiece, the
Wearable Dwarf Helm, resembles the helmets worn by the dwarves. It's a fun and quirky item that can be worn to add a touch of dwarven flair to the farmer’s appearance — perfect for players who spend their days in the Mines.
To craft a Wearable Dwarf Helm, players need either a Dwarvish Helm or Dwarf Gadget and some Cloth. These items can then be combined at a
Sewing Machine to create a wearable version of the dwarves’ helmet.
Both artifacts, the Dwarvish Helm and the Dwarf Gadget, can be found inside Artifact Troves. They may also appear when tilling soil in The Mines or breaking open Magma or Omni Geodes.
8 Swashbuckler Hat
Yo-Ho, Yo-Ho, a Stylish Life for Me
- Cloth x1
- Dragon Tooth x1
This brown pirate's hat is a must for those venturing out into Stardew's seas. Sailing never looked so good, and sporting this leather hat with a red feather is a great way for players to show their swashbuckling spirit. There's no doubt this accessory has Willy's seal of approval.
To ensure only the bravest of adventurers don this hat, it requires a rare ingredient: a Dragon Tooth. This item can be acquired in the Volcano Dungeon on Ginger Island, within the bones of a long-dead dragon. Alternatively, Lava Lurk's have a 15% chance of dropping them, making this one of the tougher items of clothing to make.
9 Arcane Shirt
For a Wizard's Wardrobe
- Cloth x1
- Void Essence x1
For those who want some arcane attire, this gold-trimmed shirt is a great option. Typically sported by Pelican Town's local magical practitioner, M. Rasmodius, players who are taking up the magical mantle will be thrilled to strut around town in this cool tee.
Players probably won't be surprised to learn that this powerful piece of clothing requires a void essence. This can be looted from monsters in the mine, generally dropped by higher-level enemies. Alternatively, for those who have met the charming sewer dweller, Krobus sells void essence for 100g. Void Essence is also loved by The Wizard, so collecting a few will make it easy to befriend him and learn all his sorcery secrets.
10 Slime Shirt
Demonstrate Slime Superiority
- Cloth x1
- Petrified Slime x1
For any players who love their Slime farming abilities, the Slime Shirt is the absolute best way to demonstrate their love. This green shirt has the cutest little Slime face on it and will be sure to signal to everyone in Pelican Town that monsters aren't always what they seem.
Making this adorable t-shirt won't be difficult for adventurers and Slime farmers since it only requires some Cloth and Petrified Slime. Petrified Slime can be found in some Geodes that Clint will open for a small fee, and it can sometimes be found in Slime Balls that players will get from the Slime Hutch on their farm.
