Crafting in Stardew Valley is a feature introduced to the player before they're even out of the tutorial section of the game. Crafting items makes so many parts of the game easier, and whether players are more interested in making mayonnaise or crafting sprinklers to keep their plants watered, figuring out the crafting mechanic in the game is an absolute must. This guide will cover what exactly crafting is, as well as how to gain different crafting recipes and what those newly-acquired recipes need before Stardew Valley players can get crafting. What Is Crafting?

The crafting mechanic in Stardew Valley allows players the opportunity to make new items out of several 'ingredients' they'll have likely already been picking up around their farm, like wood and rock. The items provided by crafting are extremely helpful, including scarecrows, bombs, sprinklers, and different artisan equipment. Crafting recipes are gained in several ways, including leveling up each skill, gaining friendship with villagers around town, and buying recipes from different vendors such as Pierre.

On top of this, players are encouraged to craft thanks to several achievements surrounding crafting: D.I.Y. Is achieved after crafting 15 unique items; Artisan after 30; and Craft Master after crafting every unique craft item in the game. Players can keep track of what they're able to craft, too, as items unable to be crafted will be grayed out in the crafting menu. Unfortunately, players can't place certain crafted items outside their farm, though this can be changed with mods.
