Stardew Valley creator Eric "ConcernedApe" Barone has commented on his potential interest in the recently canceled Hytale, hinting at new involvement from the iconic indie game developer. ConcernedApe has become something of a legend among the indie game community following the overwhelming success of Stardew Valley, with the indie developer creating the game entirely on his own. The farming simulator has often been hailed as one of the best indie games and is cited as a major factor in the recent boom of farming sim games. Now, ConcernedApe could lend a helping hand to Hytale.

Hytale garnered plenty of excitement from fans following its initial reveal, developed by the team behind Minecraft's popular "Hypixel" multiplayer server. The game looked to be clearly inspired by Hypixel Studios' Minecraft roots, billed as a sandbox game pulling many of the same RPG elements found in the Hypixel server. While the studio received significant funding and was even purchased by League of Legends developer Riot Games, Hypixel Studios announced earlier this week that Hytale was officially cancelled after 10 years in development. However, another indie developer may now be stepping in to save Hytale.

Hollow Knight: Silksong and Hytale Have Similar Stories, But One is Still Bound to Have a Happy Ending

Both Hollow Knight: Silksong and Hytale are games with infamously long development cycles, but the recent disappointing news may only affect one.

As reported by GamesRadar, ConcernedApe has expressed his potential interest in stepping in to salvage Hytale. In a discussion about Hytale with content creator Myne, the Stardew Valley developer expressed a tentative interest in the game, though he did share that far more information would be needed before he could commit to Hytale. ConcernedApe cited the need for more details about Hytale's situation, specifically citing "what the studio's plan is" and "why the game failed." Alongside Stardew Valley, ConcernedApe is also actively working on his newest solo project with the highly-anticipated Haunted Chocolatier.

Stardew Valley Creator ConcernedApe Potentially Interested in Hytale

While ConcernedApe's involvement with Hytale is far from confirmed, the developer would bring with him extensive knowledge of what it takes for an indie game to succeed. Stardew Valley, as one of indie gaming's darlings, has seen frequent and substantial updates since its initial launch, constantly adding major new content to the farming sim. ConcernedApe also brings experience across many different facets of game development, creating all of Stardew Valley's art and music by himself.

ConcernedApe potentially joining the development of Hytale could look to add another notch to an already unprecedented legacy for the indie developer. Stardew Valley recently reached a massive milestone on Steam, with the game's 98% positive review rating making the farming sim Steam's highest-rated indie game. Stardew Valley even ranks among the best games on the platform as a whole, only sitting behind Portal 2 in its all-time ratings. Hytale fans can only hope that ConcernedApe could breathe some new life back into the game following its recent cancellation.
