Summary

  • Stardew Valley could still receive updates 50 years from now.
  • ConcernedApe balances updates for Stardew Valley while working on Haunted Chocolatier.
  • Fans eagerly await more content and updates for the beloved indie farming game.

Stardew Valley's developer has said that he doesn't think the book on updating the game will ever be completely closed, with the possibility of updates even 50 years from now. It's just one more indication of the level of support the adored indie farming sim has received from the dev, and how much he still cares for Stardew Valley.

Stardew Valley launched back in 2016, though the developer had already gotten started on it in 2012. The game became a hit at launch, but the dev has returned to it with significant updates numerous times, with the major content 1.6 update and multiple patches following it being the most recent. This has further cemented its status as a beloved game.

Fans are eager to see what Eric Barone, aka ConcernedApe, does next with Haunted Chocolatier, but that doesn't mean Stardew Valley will be forgotten. In an interview with NPR, he discussed the game, its development, how it's grown, and what the future could hold. While the developer previously imagined working on Stardew Valley for the rest of his life, he's now reiterated a similar claim, noting that he doesn't want to ever completely shut the door on Stardew Valley, and that he could even add new content in 50 years. The interviewer questioned this, and he noted that he doesn't think he'll ever retire, and that it would be funny to release an update once he's 90 years old.

Stardew Valley Never Ends, But There's Space For More

While ConcernedApe is still committed to making Stardew Valley the best it can be, he also doesn't want to overwhelm the game with excessive content and bloat. In the event that it reached that point, he would call it quits on Stardew. It seems he hasn't reached that point, but that doesn't mean that he's turning his back on Haunted Chocolatier, either. The dev previously noted that he is continuing work on developing that game, though he's keeping much of the progress under wraps for now. While many fans are eager to see what the developer will be capable of when creating a brand-new game from scratch after gaining so much experience, it may still be a long time before that game reaches players.

With that being said, most fans of Stardew Valley are probably content to wait, given the main cause of Haunted Chocolatier's slow development is ConcernedApe's continuing dedication to Stardew. The game has come a long way from its start, but has never lost sight of the charm and magic that players fell in love with in the first place. It wouldn't be hugely surprising to see fans still dedicated to the game in 50 years, eagerly checking out a new update.
