Aside from giving gifts and talking with the community, you can accept and complete "side quests" in Stardew Valley. There's a bulletin board in Pelican Town that allows you to accept randomized requests. Accepting one of these and completing it within the time frame will often net you money as a reward.
As you reach the midway point of Stardew Valley's Year 1, you'll unlock a feature called "Special Orders." These are more demanding and have a longer deadline than requests you'll pick up outside Pierre's store, but some are worth doing. Among the Special Orders you'll want to grab during Year 1 is "Gus' Famous Omelet" (1.5+ version).

What to Know & How to Complete
You won't see the Special Order from Gus until after you've unlocked the Special Order bulletin board. Go into Pelican Town on day 2 of Fall (Year 1) and you'll trigger an event with Lewis and Robin. Afterward, you can interact with this bulletin board to accept Special Orders. As mentioned, these are requests that usually span a good length of the season and are more time-consuming than the requests from the bulletin board by Pierre's.
You can choose between "Gus' Famous Omelet" and another Special Order. "Gus' Famous Omelet" has a deadline of 14 days. You'll need to gather 24 
Eggs and place them in Gus' fridge at the Star Saloon. While this Special Order is active, you'll see a question mark above the fridge at the Star Saloon. Interact with it to deposit the eggs.
By going into your journal, you can check the progress of your Special Order. For "Gus' Famous Omelet," there are two meters to track your progress:
- Gather eggs (xx/24)
- Put the eggs in Gus' fridge (xx/24)
The eggs you place in the fridge can be regular-sized, Large Eggs, or have different "quality-ratings."
How to Build A Coop
Robin's Schedule
If it wasn't obvious, you're going to need chickens in order to get the eggs for "Gus' Famous Omelet." At this point, you should already have a Coop established on your farm. If not, then you'll want to have one built as soon as you have the materials and money.
You can get a coop by speaking to Robin while she's at her house. Robin's house is near the Mines and on the hill below the Spa and Linus' tent. Her business schedule is as follows:
- Closed on Tuesdays.
- Open from 9:00am - 5:00pm every other day except Fridays, in which she'll close early.
You'll need the following to make a coop:
- 4000g
- 300 Wood
- 100 Stone

How to Get Chickens
Marnie's Farm Schedule
It takes two days for the coop to be built. Once it's finished, you can start buying Chickens from Marnie's Farm for 800g. Marnie's farm is directly south of your farm. Like Robin, she has a schedule as well:
- Closed on Mondays/Tuesdays
- Open from 9:00am - 4:00pm every other day.
If you've already seen Shane's 8th Heart Event, you can get a blue chicken. However, the chances of getting one are randomized.
As long as you feed the chicken daily, it'll mature and start laying eggs by its fourth day. One chicken makes one egg, so if you want to get 24 eggs, it's recommended to buy 3-4 chickens.
You can also use the Auto-Grabber to get eggs, but this unlocks at level 10 farming and costs a pretty penny (25000g). It's useful if you plan on doing "Gus' Famous Omelet" the following year(s).
Be sure to check in the coop every day to get the eggs. Having four chickens potentially means 4 eggs a day. However, you'll want to keep them fed and keep them happy. Like with your dog/cat, you can "talk" to your chicken. If they're happy, you'll see a heart over their head.

Mini Fridge & Money
If you're turning in "Gus' Famous Omelet" Special Order for the first time, you'll receive a mini fridge in the mail on the following day. You'll also receive 3000g. This Special Order can be completed every year, but you'll only receive the 3000g. By Year 2, you should have more reliable ways of getting money, so you may not need to do it again. It'll also save you from putting aside 24 eggs.
You can also go to the Star Saloon after turning in this Special Order to trigger a cutscene.
