Oak Resin is a crafting material in Stardew Valley, introduced in version 1.0. It's needed for a specific bundle and can also be given as a "liked" gift to a certain NPC, but its main use is for crafting Deluxe Speed-Gro or Kegs.

Stardew Valley: How to Get Dinosaur Egg

There are many different animals that players can raise in Stardew Valley, but a few of them can't be purchased normally- one being a dinosaur.

The tricky part is that Oak Resin isn't sold by any vendors in Stardew Valley. Players must find clever ways to harvest or mass-produce it. Fortunately, automating Oak Resin collection is simple, and there are several ways to maximize its production on the farm.

Updated on April 26, 2025, by Mohsen Baqery: Stardew Valley 1.6 didn't introduce many changes to Oak Resin. The update mostly focused on tweaks to using the Tapper and added a new recipe for Deluxe Speed-Gro. However, we've updated this guide to include important details about Oak Resin farming that were previously overlooked. We've also accounted for all the changes after the 1.6 update to keep the information current and practical.

How to Get Oak Resin

Tappers Stardew Valley

You can obtain Oak Resin by placing a Tapper on an Oak Tree. The regular Tapper produces one Oak Resin every seven days, while the Heavy Tapper speeds things up, yielding one Oak Resin every three days.

Another way to get Oak Resin is by defeating the Haunted Skull in the Quarry Mines or the dungeon floors in The Mines. Additionally, there’s a chance of obtaining Oak Resin whenever you break down Hardwood in the Wood Chipper.

You cannot buy Oak Resin from any of the Stardew Valley vendors. It can only be obtained by tapping Oak Trees, farming Haunted Skulls, or chipping Hardwood.

Getting Oak Resin Using Tappers

The quarry in Stardew Valley
  • Find or plant an Oak Tree: Wild Oak Trees can be found around Pelican Town, such as in Cindersap Forest. Alternatively, you can plant an Acorn to grow your own Oak Tree.
  • Craft a Tapper: Once you reach level four in the Foraging Skill, you unlock the regular Tapper recipe. Crafting it requires 40 Wood and 2 Copper Bars. Place the Tapper on an Oak Tree and check it after seven days.
  • Collect the Oak Resin: Each regular Tapper yields one Oak Resin, which you can use for crafting or sell for up to 187g.
  • Speed up production: To harvest Oak Resin faster, unlock the Heavy Tapper recipe from Qi's Walnut Room. The blueprint costs 20 Qi Gems, and crafting the device requires 30 Hardwood and 1 Radioactive Bar. It's an expensive item, but it doubles the speed of Oak Resin production, yielding one every three days instead of seven.

Oak Resin Drop Rates

Tapping Oak Trees isn't the only way to get Oak Resin. Haunted Skulls, found in the Quarry Mine and random dungeon floors of The Mines, have a 1.3% chance of dropping Oak Resin. Additionally, shredding Hardwood in the Wood Chipper has a small chance—about 0.66%—to yield Oak Resin.

Breakdown of Oak Resin Sale Price

Oak Resin’s base price is 150g. With the Tapper profession, this increases by 25%, bringing the final sale price to 187g. Since the regular Tapper produces one Oak Resin per week, the profit margin is around 21.5g to 26.7g per day, before accounting for production costs.

Given its versatile applications, Oak Resins remains a sought-after item year-round. Since the resource can also be collected in Winter, players should take that as an opportunity to create more items or sell the resin to make a quick profit.

Crafting Recipes

Oak Resin is essentially used in two crafting recipes, namely Deluxe Speed-Gro and Kegs, both of which require players to have Farming Level 8.

  • The Deluxe Speed-Gro is made using 1 Oak Resin and 5 Bone Fragments. It stimulates leaf production and increases the growth of crops by 25%.
  • Kegs are the best item to craft with Oak Resins and should be a part of every player's inventory. They are made using 30 Wood, 1 Copper Bar, 1 Iron Bar, and 1 Oak Resin. Kegs are used to make beverages like Wine and Coffee, which can be sold for Gold.

Bundles And Quests

  • Oak Resin is also a key component in two bundles in the Community Center, the Enchanter's Bundle on the Bulletin Board and the Exotic Foraging Bundle in the Crafts Room.
  • Stardew Valley’s Fish Ponds containing Woodskip may request an Oak Resin during capacity-enlargement quests. Giving this item to the Pond increases its capacity from 5 to 7.

Gifting Oak Resin

You can gift Oak Resin to Maru, as she is the only bachelorette in Stardew Valley who actually likes this item. Everyone else, including the bachelors, dislikes it.
