In the popular farming simulation game Stardew Valley, livestock animals play a crucial role in all agricultural activities on the farm. These animals provide valuable resources while adding a touch of charm and picturesque beauty to the farm. Sheep are one of the livestock animals that players can raise on their farm.

Raising sheep is a profitable investment in Stardew Valley. Once their wool is harvested, it can be sold for a good amount of money. This turns sheep into a reliable source of income for players looking to enhance their earnings. To accommodate a thriving flock of Sheep on the farm, players first need to build a Deluxe Barn.

The Deluxe Barn is the final Barn upgrade in Stardew Valley. To upgrade Farm buildings, players need to visit Robin at the Carpenter’s Shop.

Upgrading from the Big Barn to the Deluxe Barn requires two days. The total building cost is 25,000 gold. The materials required are 550 pieces of Wood and 300 Stones.

For players who want to construct the Deluxe Barn from scratch, the total cost is 43,000 gold, 1,350 pieces of wood, and 650 stones. If players decide to purchase all the wood and stone directly from Robin, there will be an additional expense. The overall cost of the materials in Year 1 would be 69,500 gold. However, if these materials are acquired in Year 2 or beyond, the cost increases to 175,500 gold.

The Deluxe Barn has the capacity to house 12 animals and unlocks two new Barn animals – Sheep and Pigs.

How to Get Sheep in Stardew Valley

Once players have successfully constructed the Deluxe Barn, they can head over to Marnie’s Ranch and purchase Sheep at a cost of 8,000 gold each. Sheep are capable of becoming pregnant and eventually giving birth to baby sheep.

The more sheep housed within the same building, the greater the chance that one of them will give birth. Players will receive a notification on the day the baby sheep is born, informing them that a sheep in their barn gave birth during the night.

Baby sheep who are fed daily grow into adults in 4 nights. A mature sheep takes 3 days to grow a full wool coat. However, sheep who develop a 4–5 Hearts relationship with their owners tend to grow wool faster, within 2 days. The Shepherd Profession additionally shortens the time required for a wool coat to grow by one day.

To harvest the wool, players require A pair of Shears, which can be purchased at Marnie’s Ranch for 1,000 gold.

Stardew Valley is available now for Android, iOS, PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
