Construction is a vital part of the farming experience in Stardew Valley. It allows players to evolve their small farm into a thriving homestead. All the construction projects are managed by Pelican Town’s local carpenter, Robin.
At the Carpenter’s Shop in Stardew Valley, Robin offers several services related to construction and home improvement. Players can purchase new farm buildings to expand their farm, with each structure serving a unique purpose on the farm. It's essential to plan construction projects carefully in Stardew Valley, taking into account the time it will take for them to finish, as well as any resource requirements.
How Long Does Construction Take in Stardew Valley
Robin begins construction the day after buildings are purchased from The Carpenter’s Shop. Players should keep in mind that the shop remains closed on all festival days. If
Robin had already started a job on the farm, these shop closures would delay the job completion by one day. The duration of construction varies depending on the type of project.
Farm Buildings
Farm buildings in Stardew Valley serve multiple functions. Some are essential for housing animals, such as Coops and Barns. The capacity of both Coops and Barns can be expanded by upgrading them. Players have the flexibility to construct as many farm buildings on their farm as they want. If they have the available space, they can even construct multiple buildings of the same kind.
- Cabins and Shipping Bins are built instantly
- Coops and Barns take three days to be fully constructed
- Other farm buildings take two days to build
Upgrading the Barn or Coop to higher tiers requires two days.
Farmhouse Upgrades
Upgrading the Farmhouse does not change the footprint of the building. It only adds more space inside the house. There are 3 house upgrades in Stardew Valley. Each of these upgrades requires three days to complete:
- House Upgrade 1 adds a Kitchen.
- House Upgrade 2 adds new rooms and makes the kitchen and bedroom more spacious.
- House Upgrade 3 adds a Cellar under the house, which can be accessed via the kitchen.
House Renovations
House renovations provide players with the ability to customize their house by adding or removing specific features. These renovations are free, reversible, and are completed instantly. They are unlocked after completing the second farmhouse upgrade.
Painting
At the Carpenter’s Shop, players have the option to paint the farmhouse, stable and selective farm buildings. They can simply choose “Paint Buildings” under the construction menu. It is completely free and requires no construction time.
While construction and upgrades are in progress, Robin is unavailable for dialogue or gifting.
Stardew Valley is available now for Android, iOS, PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
