As the sun rises over the picturesque farm in Stardew Valley and players begin another day of planting, mining, and getting to know the townsfolk, a steaming cup of
Coffee in hand is the ultimate companion.
For a convenient option, players can purchase a deliciously aromatic cup of Coffee from the Stardrop Saloon for 300 gold. Coffee may occasionally be found in Supply Crates on the Beach Farm or at the Night Market for free, but there’s simply quite nothing like the satisfaction of brewing one’s own coffee. This guide covers everything players need to know about making Coffee from scratch in Stardew Valley.
Updated on April 27, 2025 by Renri Seong: Coffee is one of the most useful beverages in Stardew Valley if you need to get somewhere quickly. Not only can it be consumed as is, but you can use it to make triple-shot espressos, which grant you a stronger speed boost. With the 1.6 version for Stardew Valley out on every console, there are a few more ways of getting coffee that weren't present in the initial release. The following guide has been updated to include recent information in 1.6.
Stardew Valley: How To Get A Coop (& Make It Worth Your While)
The Coop is an essential building for any Stardew Valley Farm. Here's how to get it, upgrade it, and maximize its potential profit.
Every Way to Make Coffee in Stardew Valley
Coffee Beans and Where to Find Them
Coffee is a popular and widely consumed beverage prepared from roasted Coffee Beans. It is known for its distinct and rich flavor as well as its stimulating effects due to its caffeine content. The process of brewing coffee in Stardew Valley is quite simple: you only need 5 Coffee Beans and a Keg.
How to Get Coffee Beans
Coffee Beans are plantable seeds that grow into a Coffee plant. Unfortunately, Coffee Beans cannot be purchased from any of the stores in Stardew Valley. Your primary method of farming them will be from Dust Sprites, a type of enemy found on the Frozen floors (41 to 79) of the Mines.
Dust Sprites are small creatures that travel in packs and have a 1% chance of dropping Coffee Beans when killed.
Monsters have a 25% chance to drop Coffee when killed if you equip a Hot Java Ring.
Additionally, you can purchase Coffee Beans from the Traveling Cart. There is a 25% chance for the beans to appear in the Cart’s Special Stock, costing 2,500 gold. They are also available in the Standard Stock, with prices ranging from 100 to 1,000 gold.
Coffee Beans are a multi-seasonal crop that can be grown in both Spring and Summer. When planted, Coffee Beans take ten days to fully mature. You can harvest four beans from mature plants every two days. Using Fertilizers can speed up the growth of the first bean in every harvest.
| Fertilizer | Time Saved | Ready for Harvest |
|---|---|---|
| Normal | – | 10 days |
| Speed-Gro | 10% | 9 days |
| Deluxe Speed-Gro | 25% | 8 days |
| Hyper Speed-Gro | 33% | 7 days |
Regardless of its growth stage, a Coffee Bean plant continues growing from the 28th of Spring to the 1st of Summer without interruptions. Any fertilizer used will remain in its place when Summer arrives.
How to Brew Coffee in Kegs
Kegs are essential for turning Coffee Beans into Coffee in Stardew Valley. The crafting recipe for Kegs becomes available when you achieve Farming Level 8. The required materials are 1 Oak Resin, 1 Copper Bar, 1 Iron Bar, and 30 pieces of Wood. You can also acquire Kegs by completing either the Artisan or the Brewer's Bundles in the Pantry.
To brew one cup of Coffee, you need to place 5 Coffee Beans from your Inventory inside a Keg. All 5 beans must be of the same quality (normal, silver, or gold). The Keg will not process beans that are not in a single stack of 5. It takes 120 minutes (approximately 2 in-game hours) for Coffee Beans to be turned into Coffee inside a Keg.
Unlike all other Keg products, Coffee is not categorized as an Artisan Good. Therefore, the Artisan Profession does not influence the sale price of Coffee.
Using the Coffee Maker
A Coffee Maker automatically brews a fresh cup of coffee every morning. You can receive this equipment in the Mail after completing Evelyn's Special Order, 'Gifts for George.'
You have 28 days to complete this quest, during which you'll need to collect 12 Leeks and place them on the stove in Evelyn's house. On completing it successfully, you are rewarded 2000 gold, a special cutscene, and the Coffee Maker. It is a fantastic way to get free Coffee since it doesn’t require any coffee beans.
If you're in multiplayer and have completed "Gifts for George," the new character will receive a Coffee Maker in the mail, essentially giving you two Coffee Makers. Remember that in order to access multiplayer, you'll need a Cabin on your farm.
Other Ways to Get Coffee in Stardew Valley 1.6
Festivals and More
In Stardew Valley 1.6, new items called Mystery Boxes could be found all over Stardew Valley after you've collected your second Prize Ticket from the "Help Wanted" billboard and played 50 in-game days. These are blue boxes with a yellow question mark on them. There are a variety of ways to collect Mystery Boxes, but here are the most common:
- Breaking barrels or containers in the Mines, Skull Cavern, and Volcano.
- Chopping down trees or shaking trees that drop seeds (ex: Oak Tree).
- Fishing up treasure chests.
- Dropped from the present train cars at the Railroad in the Mountains (winter only).
To break open a Mystery Box, you'll need the help of Clint. You cannot break them open with the Geode Crusher, so you'll have to go to the Blacksmith. Breaking open a Mystery Box will cost you 25g. Mystery Boxes carry all types of goodies from books, to clothing, to food. You have an approximate 6% chance of getting three Coffees from one Mystery Box.
Another way to get coffee is through the SquidFest on Winter 12 and Winter 13. If you manage to reach Gold Tier on Winter 12th, which requires cathing five squid, you'll receive x3 Coffee and x1 Pearl.
Finally, there's the Desert Festival. This takes place in Spring during 15-17, but only if the bus is repaired. The festival itself opens at 10am and runs until midnight. Each day, there will be different vendors that are selected randomly out of the villagers. During the Desert Festival, you'll be able to collect Calico Eggs from the minigames or exploring Skull Cavern. If George or Harvey are manning a stall at the festival, then you can buy Coffee from them for 10 Calico Eggs.

Uses of Coffee
Gifts and More
Coffee provides some valuable temporary buffs. When you consume a cup of coffee, your Speed is boosted by 1 point. This buff lasts for 1 minute and 23 seconds. It can be especially useful for farm work, exploring the mines, or just getting around the map more quickly.
Coffee increases your horse's speed too.
Coffee makes an excellent gift for Harvey, who absolutely loves it. Most of the villagers in town like coffee, apart from Jas and Vincent who hate it.
Additionally, coffee is also used in one cooking recipe. Three cups of Coffee can be combined to make a Triple Shot Espresso. The recipe for this potent coffee can be obtained from Gus at the Stardrop Saloon for 5,000 g. When consumed, the Tripe Shot Espresso replaces the Speed Buff provided by Coffee with a Buff that lasts 4 minutes and 12 seconds.
Alternatively, you can sell Coffee using the Shipping Bin for 150 gold per cup. Unfortunately, it cannot be sold to Pierre’s General Store.
Coffee is a good ingredient for the Luau Festival potluck in your first year. If your cows aren't producing Large Milk of gold or iridium quality, then you're better off tossing in a cup of coffee. Doing so will net you 60 friendship points with all eligible villagers.
