Sam is one of the six eligible bachelors in Stardew Valley. He resides at 1 Willow Lane with his younger brother, Vincent, and mother, Jodi. His father, Kent, serves in the military and has been away for years, which causes Sam considerable stress, and he longs for his father’s return.

Sam is an outgoing, free spirit who enjoys adventures and skateboarding. He also plays the guitar and is known for his love of music. Sam dreams of starting a band with his friends, Sebastian and Abigail in Stardew Valley. Players can build a deep connection with Sam and marry this kind-hearted NPC.

You can increase Friendship points with Sam by giving him gifts twice a week. Giving Sam a gift on his birthday (Summer 17) has eight times the effect on Friendship points. It's recommended to give Sam a "Loved" Gift on his birthday (example: pizza), but a "Liked" Gift works, too. You'll want to avoid giving him a gift that he dislikes or hates.

Things Sam loves being gifted are:

  • All Universal Loves (i.e: Rabbit's Foot, Prismatic Shard, Pearl)
  • Cactus Fruit
  • Maple Bar
  • Tigerseye
  • Pizza

Things Sam likes being gifted are:

  • All Universal Likes (except Vegetables, Pickles, Mayonnaise, and Duck Mayonnaise)
  • All Eggs (except Void Eggs)
  • Joja Cola

If you have 4 hearts with Sam by the time of the Flower Dance (Spring 24), you can ask him to dance with you. This will increase your friendship with him by one heart. If you don't ask Sam or if you don't have enough hearts, he'll dance with Penny instead.

Sometimes when you speak to Sam, you'll be prompted to give an answer. Depending on what you say, you can either gain Friendship Points or lose them. Here are the questions with Friendship Points:

How to Get the Bouquet & Mermaid's Pendant

A romantic relationship with Sam begins after getting an eight-heart friendship. To date Sam, you need to give him a Bouquet (sold at Pierre’s for 200g). Sam will happily accept and his status in the Socials tab changes to “boyfriend”.

After reaching a ten-heart friendship with Sam, it's possible to marry him. You can propose to Sam using a special necklace known as the Mermaid's Pendant. The Old Mariner, usually situated by the tidal pools on the Beach during rainy days, sells this pendant for 5000g. If you haven't done so already, you'll need 300 Wood to repair the bridge in order to reach the Old Mariner. For Sam's Fourteen Heart Event, you will also need to upgrade the farmhouse twice.

Once you're married to Sam, his schedule will change. He will stay on the farm for most of the week, but he leaves on Mondays and Fridays to visit his family and play at the saloon respectively. He'll also leave for Calico Desert if he works as a vendor for the Desert Festival.
