In the picturesque farmlands of Stardew Valley, fishing remains a beloved pastime. It offers players both a serene escape and the thrill of hooking rare finds, such as the extraordinary Tiger Trout.

A Tiger Trout is a sterile hybrid of the Brown Trout and the Brook Trout, making it one of the Stardew Valley's rarest catches. Unlike other fish, a Tiger Trout is unable to breed when placed in a Fish Pond. The only thing a Tiger Trout can produce is dark brown Roe. Catching a Tiger Trout can be quite challenging for players, as it has specific environmental and time-sensitive requirements.

As Tiger Trouts are river fish, players can catch them in the river flowing through Pelican Town or Cindersap Forest. The best time to catch a Tiger Trout is between 6 AM to 7 PM during Fall and Winter.

Players can catch a Tiger Trout at any time, or any season, using the Magic Bait.

Krobus occasionally sells Tiger Trouts in his shop on Wednesdays for 200 gold. They might be available for purchase at the Traveling Cart, with prices ranging from 450 to 1,000 gold. Additionally, players may be able to reel in this rare hybrid in the Riverlands Farm, Forest Farm, or Hill-Top Farm layouts.

Uses of Tiger Trout

  • Tiger Trouts make a good gift for Willy at the Fish Shop. However, most of the villagers dislike them. They can also be used when cooking Maki Rolls and Sashimi or making a Quality Fertilizer. A Tiger Trout is required to complete the River Fish Bundle in the Fish Tank.
  • 1 to 4 Tiger Trouts may be randomly requested by Willy at the “Help Wanted” board outside the General Store during Fall or Winter. Players are rewarded with 150 gold per fish, and they get to keep the fish.
  • Additionally, at the “Special Orders” board outside the Mayor’s Manor, Demetrius may request the player to catch 10 Tiger Trouts in the Fall to control the aquatic overpopulation. The player is rewarded with 150 gold and the crafting recipe for the Farm Computer.
  • Tiger Trouts have a base selling price of 150 g. This can go up to 300 g for iridium-quality fish. Prices are increased by 25% for players with the Fisher Profession.

Stardew Valley is available now on Mobile, PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
