Stardew Valley’s Update 1.6 introduces plenty of fresh new content that focuses on quality-of-life improvements in hopes of making your farm life even more delightful. Developer ConcernedApe has keenly listened to the requests of Stardew Valley fans and added a new storage item called the Big Chest.

The Big Chest is a game-changer for players who like to hoard every resource they come across. While the regular chests have a maximum capacity of 36 items, the Big Chest features 70 storage slots and can store almost twice as many items as a regular one. With more storage space in a single chest, you can organize your items more efficiently and free up valuable space on your farm.

Stardew Valley: How to Catch Legend

Legend is the most coveted catch for every fisherman in Stardew Valley, and here we'll share some tips to help you get it.

Updated on December 31, 2024 by Usama Ali: Unlike regular chests, which have limited space, Stardew Valley’s Big Chest comes with more storage slots. With so much space, you can organize all of your crops and supplies more effectively. You can even assign colors to your Big Chests based on the items they hold to easily identify their contents. Interestingly, Big Chests also have the ability to upgrade regular chests and this guide now covers how you can use it to your advantage.

How To Get The Crafting Recipe For Big Chest

Like some other items in the game, before you can craft a Big Chest in Stardew Valley, you will need to purchase the crafting recipe for it. This recipe is sold by the town’s carpenter, Robin, and costs 5,000 gold coins.

Robin can be found at the Carpenter’s Shop, situated north of the Community Center. The shop is open from 9 AM to 5 PM every day except Tuesdays and closes around 4 PM on Fridays.

The Big Chest crafting recipe is only available in Robin’s Shop if you’ve updated to the latest version of Stardew Valley, Version 1.6.

How To Craft A Big Chest In Stardew Valley

To craft a Big Chest in Stardew Valley, you will need the following materials.

Wood can easily be obtained by chopping down trees using an Axe, whereas Copper Bars can be smelted from Copper Ore inside a Furnace. Copper Ore can be obtained by breaking copper nodes in the mines using a Pickaxe. Alternatively, players can also purchase Copper Ores from the Blacksmith.

One Copper Bar is prepared by smelting 5 Copper Ore using 1 piece of Coal as fuel. Each Copper Bar takes 30 minutes in-game time to make, which is about 22 seconds in real-time.

Once you’ve gathered the required ingredients, simply navigate to the Crafting tab (denoted by a hammer icon) in the Menu, and click on the Big Chest icon to craft it. These chests can also be color-graded to categorize items and help you manage your inventory efficiently while keeping the farm looking neater.

How To Use A Big Chest in Stardew Valley

The Big Chest in Stardew Valley is an incredibly useful storage upgrade that allows you to organize and store more items efficiently. Before you can use a Big Chest, you need to choose a convenient spot on your farm or in your house to place it.

After placing the Big Chest, interact with it to open it. Next, drag and drop items from your inventory into the chest – similar to how you’d store items in regular chests. You can store a large variety of items, including crops, tools, crafting materials, and even furniture items in Stardew Valley.

A unique feature of the Big Chest is its ability to replace and upgrade your standard chests without losing the items inside. Simply walk up to an existing chest you want to upgrade and interact with it while holding the Big Chest. Doing so will automatically replace the old chest with the Big Chest, and all items stored in the original chest will easily transfer into the upgraded one.

To help keep track of your stored items, you can change the Big Chest's color. Simply open the chest and select the color option to customize it to your liking.
