Thanks to its fun mechanics and cozy gameplay, Stardew Valley is one of the most beloved farm life simulation games of all time. The game takes players on an exciting journey where they experience the joys of country life through farming, fishing, cooking, and mining while making friends along the way.
Fishing is an important skill in the game because you can use the fish you catch to cook various foods, give them as gifts to villagers, or sell them for money. Stardew Valley recently got a new update that added a lot of fresh content, including the
Goby Fish. Since it was introduced recently, many players are unfamiliar with it. Keep reading to find out how to get and use the Goby fish in Stardew Valley.
Stardew Valley: How to Fish
This guide will help Stardew Valley players learn how to effectively reel in fish and become skilled fishers.
How to Get Goby Fish in Stardew Valley
The Goby is a rare and poisonous fish found in Stardew Valley. Unlike many other fish in the game, which are seasonal and weather-dependent, the Goby can be found all year round in the waterfalls of Cindersap Forest. While you can theoretically fish for it at any time of the day, gamers have discovered that it's more likely to appear after 6 PM.
Given its rarity, you need pretty sturdy equipment to catch this fish. Using a Curiosity Lure can increase your chances by 30%, which is available in Quarry Mine, Skull Cavern, or Volcano Dungeon. The best fishing pole to use is the Iridium Rod because it's the only one that works with the Curiosity Lure tackle. Avoid using a Training Rod as it won't help you catch this fish.
To increase your chances of catching the Goby fish even further, try using Goby Bait. You can purchase it from Willy's Shop or craft it yourself if you already have a Goby in your inventory. With the recommended equipment and Goby Bait, your chances of catching the Goby fish will increase by 50%.
Once you have the necessary equipment, make your way to the Waterfalls located on the southeastern cliffs of the Cindersap Forest, just to the left of the Abandoned House. You can approach from either side and then cast your fishing pole into the water stream.
How to Use Goby Fish in Stardew Valley
Goby is poisonous and eating it can reduce your energy by -62. It's not a good idea to give it as a gift to villagers because most of them don't like it. However, there are still some ways you can use it, as listed below:
- You can sell Goby to Willy’s Shop for 150 Gold, sometimes more depending on its quality.
- It can be used to craft many useful items like Sashimi, Maki Roll, and Quality Fertilizer.
- Additionally, you can put Goby in a pond to start fish farming or use it to sew a Fish Shirt.
