The 1.6 update of Stardew Valley introduces mastery levels, a new bonus you can get after maxing out all five skills. The one for the Foraging skill unlocks a new kind of tree seed, and that seed can eventually generate Mystic Syrup, a useful crafting item used in a few end-game recipes.

You get Mystic Syrup the same way you get other kinds of tree sap. The main difference is how hard it is to get the Mystic Trees that generate it. This Stardew Valley guide will explain how to get the trees, how to make the syrup, and what you can use the syrup for once you have it.

How to Get Mystic Tree Seeds

Four mystic trees in Stardew Valley.

Once you reach level 10 in all five skills, you can find a door that appears on a cliff wall on the east edge of Cindersap Forest. All the experience you gain after this point (from any skill) will build your Mastery level, and you can spend Mastery points on the five special packages you find in the Cindersap cave.

One item in the Foraging Mastery package is the recipe for Mystic Tree Seeds. To craft these seeds, you need five of each wild tree seeds: Acorns, Maple Seeds, Pine Cones, and Mahogany Seeds. Mystic Trees work the same way as any other kind of wild tree: they don't need water, you can plant them with one space between them, and each night they have a chance of growing to the next stage of development. You can then chop down to get Hardwood, just like a mahogany tree, but this is something of a waste.

Instead, you should use a Tapper or Heavy Tapper to have them generate Mystic Syrup. Mystic Syrup has the same turnaround time as Oak Resin: with a regular Tapper you get some every seven days, and with a Heavy Tapper you can get Mystic Syrup every three days.

How to Use Mystic Syrup

Much like Maple Syrup, you can consume Mystic Syrup for a health and energy boost. While Maple Syrup restores 50 energy and 22 health, Mystic Syrup gives you 500 energy and 225 health. You can also sell Mystic Syrup, which has a base sell price of 1,000g.

Mystic Syrup is also an ingredient in two endgame crafting recipes. First, you can use it to create Blue Grass Starter, and you can get the recipe for it from Qi's Walnut Room on Ginger Island. Blue grass doesn't feed animals any more effectively than normal grass, but actions like petting and milking animals are twice as effective at improving your animal's relationship after they feed on blue grass. This recipe is the only way to get blue grass on any of the farms aside from the Meadowlands Farm introduced by the 1.6 patch.

The other Mystic Syrup recipe is the Treasure Totem, which is the other recipe you get for choosing Foraging Mastery. Specifically, you need 5 Hardwood, 1 Mystic Syrup, and 10 Moss. When you use one while standing on diggable terrain, all eight of the squares around you fill up with treasure spots (assuming they're also diggable terrain). This is a great way to farm for artifacts, secret notes, and other collectibles you might not have found yet.
