Mushrooms have always been a difficult resource to obtain in Stardew Valley, especially if you did not choose to have mushrooms in your farm cave. With the Version 1.6 update, however, there is now a new method you can use to more regularly pick up mushrooms and add them to your inventory.

You'll now have the chance to obtain a Mushroom Log, a craftable item that can be unlocked as you level up in your skills. It can produce many different types, including Common Mushrooms, Purple Mushrooms, Red Mushrooms, Morel, and more. Here's how you can get and make one of your own.

To unlock the recipe for the Mushroom Log, you'll need to work on your Foraging skill. Foraging is one of the easier occupations to start, as all you will need to do to level up is pick up any items you find on the ground and add them to your inventory.

In particular, you will unlock the recipe once you reach Level 4 for Foraging. If you're just getting started, it shouldn't take too long to reach this level. Take a trip to the Bus Stop, The Mines, Calico Desert, and more, and you should be able to find a ton of Stardew Valley items to forage.

Once you've unlocked the recipe for the Mushroom Log, you can find it in the Crafting section of the main menu. Scroll down, and you'll find it next to the Lightning Rod. To craft a Mushroom Log, you'll need 10x Hardwood, and 10x Moss.

How to Get Hardwood

Hardwood is a rare wood resource that only comes from Mahogany Trees, Large Stumps, Large Logs, and Woodskip Fish Ponds. The best spot to find Hardwood is in the Secret Woods, located near the Wizard's Tower in Cindersap Forest. You'll find many Large Stumps here that you can break for around 2–3 pieces of Hardwood.

How to Get Moss

Moss is a resource introduced in Version 1.6. You can find it covering trees, specifically on Maple Trees, Pine Trees, and Oak Trees. The trees will be covered in a green substance, and you can obtain it by hitting the tree with any tool. You can find Pine Trees and Maple Trees in the Cindersap Forest area.

How to Use the Mushroom Log in Stardew Valley

With the required materials in hand, you can return to the Crafting section of the main menu and create your Mushroom Log. Then, you can place it anywhere on your farm that you prefer. However, the item will work much more efficiently if you place it near a bunch of wild trees.

Once you've placed the Mushroom Log in your desired location, you'll just need to wait until a mushroom appears on it. This could take quite a few days, even when placed near some wild trees. This item will make it easier to get uncommon mushrooms like Morel, especially if you have a fruit farm cave.
