Stardew Valley allows players to give gifts to villagers in order to develop friendships. Each friendship comes with unique benefits, including new quests, recipes, items, and hidden cutscenes. You can give each villager two gifts per week, and another one on their birthday.

Stardew Valley: 14 Things You Should Never Sell

Players are going to collect a lot of stuff in Stardew Valley, and while some of it may be worth some gold, not all of it is better off being sold.

Marnie, one of the most beloved villagers, lives at her ranch to the southwest of town. She sells farm supplies at her shop, including hay, animal accessories, and tools to streamline the farming process. So why befriend Marnie? Like all villagers, the chance of receiving a gift from them increases with the rate of friendship points. Marnie also offers two great recipes as friendship develops, an item-retrieval quest and players who are also high-level friends with Lewis will unlock an extra fun cut scene too. Here are the best gifts to offer her.

8 All Universal Loves

Favorite Items For All Villagers

Stardew Valley: Haley's Universal Loves, a Golden Pumpkin, Pearl, Rabbit's Foot, Magic Rock Candy and Stardew Tea
  • Rare items are often found late in the game
  • Found across the farm and through crafting and fishing

Like all villagers in Stardew Valley, Marnie will accept all universally loved gifts. These include Golden Pumpkins, Magic Rock Candy, Pearls, Prismatic Shards, Rabbit's Foot, and Stardrop Tea. Experienced players will know that these are generally rare items that are hard to find, so the chances of finding one to give to Marnie are relatively slim.

7 Farmer's Lunch

This'll Keep You Going

Farmer's Lunch dish
  • An easy early-game recipe
  • Ingredients can be sourced from the farm

One of Marnie's favorite dishes, this farming-themed meal is easy to unlock, with players receiving it at farming level 3. Not only does it offer +200 energy and +90 health, but it also offers a great +3 farming buff.

To make this wholesome meal, all players need is a parsnip and an omelet. Like all loved items, players will gain +80 friendship points with Marnie.

6 Pink Cake

There's Little Heart Candies On Top

  • A slightly complex recipe, but with easy ingredients to find
  • Popular with several villagers

Another recipe they can make themselves, this cake will provide +80 friendship points when a player gifts it to Marnie.

Stardew Valley: 9 Best Drops From Monsters

Stardew Valley features a wide variety of loot to find across activities. These are the best drops players can find from monsters in the game.

To make this recipe, players will need a melon, wheat flour, sugar, and an egg. Sadly, this recipe only appears on The Queen of Sauce in year 2, on the 21st day of Summer, so Marnie may have to wait a while to get this one.

5 Diamond

A Rare And Valuable Gem

A blue diamond
  • Most often found in the mines
  • A very popular gift item

This is a popular gifting item among villagers, and a rather easy item to find. Diamonds can be found in nodes throughout all mining locations, after floor 50. They may also be dropped by some slimes, duggies, and golems.

When Marnie receives this item, players will gain +80 friendship points towards their relationship.

4 Pumpkin Pie

A pumpkin pie with a pastry casing and pumpkin filling
  • A recipe found in first-year
  • Uses items found on the farm

Another item that guarantees a bonus of +80 friendship with Marnie, this recipe is found early in the game and has lots of benefits. Players will find the Pumpkin Pie recipe on The Queen of Sauce in their first year, on the 21st of Winter.

Stardew Valley: Best Items To Sell & Make Money

Some items are worth more than others in Stardew Valley, and these items are ones that players will definitely want to sell.

The recipe requires a pumpkin, wheat flour, milk, and sugar. It provides +225 energy and +101 health, making it a great recipe to keep on hand, not just for gifting!

3 All Universal Likes

Items Liked By All Villagers

some universally liked items, a jar of life elixir, a bottle of maple syrup and a shiny shell.
  • Found across Stardew, these items can be foraged, mined, or made
  • Artisan products can be crafted using items on the farm

All liked items guarantee +45 friendship points, and they are usually far easier to obtain than liked gifts.

Universally liked items include most artisan goods, most cooking items, all flowers except for poppies, foraged minerals except for quartz, and all gems. All the villagers also like Maple Syrup, Life Elixir, and Rainbow Shells, to name a few.

Sometimes, players will find secret notes detailing other items that particular villagers will enjoy.

2 Eggs and Milk

Farmer's Essentials

Stardew Valley cow's milk

  • Easily found on the farm from early in the game
  • Sourced every day from cows and chickens

As the resident farmer in Stardew Valley, it's unsurprising that Marnie loves classic farm items like eggs and milk. These items are easily found on most farms, especially if players have chickens or cows in their coops and barns. In fact, most players will be able to spare eggs or milk as regular gifts due to their commonality.

Here’s a list of the best gifts you can get for Harvey, the charming town doctor in Stardew Valley.

Gifting eggs to Marnie excludes the Void Egg, which is almost universally disliked by the villagers.

1 Stardew Valley Almanac

Gain Some Farming Experience

A yellow book with a small vegetable on the front
  • An expensive and hard-to-find item
  • Perhaps not the easiest gift to give Marnie

Unlike a lot of liked items, this is not the easiest gift to come by. A book that provides farming insights to players (and a sweet 250 farming XP boost for all who read it), this is obviously a great gift for Marnie.

Players can find this book at the Bookseller's stall, which appears on two random days each season, for between 5,000g and 10,000g. It can also appear on occasion at the Traveling Cart, in Fishing Chests, and in rare mining and digging locations.

Altogether, the value of this book means it probably isn't the most sensible exchange for +45 friendship points with Marnie, but if players come across it by chance, it may make a worthwhile present.
