The September 12 Nintendo Direct surprised players with a trailer for the Nintendo Switch 2 edition of Stardew Valley, which will include a number of unique new features like mouse controls and 4-player local split screen. Stardew Valley has been available on the original Switch for years, but fans can now look forward to a brand-new experience with the Switch 2 version of the hit game.
Since it first launched back in 2016, Stardew Valley has become one of the most beloved indie titles of all time, with many ranking it among the best life-sim video games. The pixelated farming experience features a variety of gameplay mechanics, ranging from fishing and mining to combat and crafting, and the new Switch 2 version of Stardew Valley will introduce new features that take advantage of the console's capabilities.
Stardew Valley Nintendo Switch 2 Edition Features
The Nintendo Switch 2 edition of Stardew Valley will allow fans to play the game in a variety of new ways, with the introduction of mouse controls, 4-player local split screen, and even the implementation of Game Share. The Nintendo Switch 2 Joy-Con mouse controls add a new level of accessibility to the Switch 2 version of Stardew Valley, making it easier for players to use point-and-click mechanics while gaming on console. The 4-player local split screen makes it possible for a family or group of friends to all play together on the same screen and off of a single Nintendo Switch 2 system. Game Share allows up to four separate Switch systems to be able to play Stardew Valley at the same time, as long as at least one player owns the base game.
Stardew Valley creator Eric "ConcernedApe" Barone had previously announced a new update coming to Stardew Valley, though it remains unknown if that update will specifically focus on the Nintendo Switch 2 version of the game. It is likely, though, that any planned patches to Stardew Valley will now include the Switch 2 Edition, as other Stardew updates, such as the massive Update 1.6 and subsequent hot fixes, have been made available across all playing platforms.
Almost a decade after its initial launch, the indie farming game remains incredibly popular, with Stardew Valley setting new player count records and remaining at the top of the Steam gaming charts. The beloved title finally makes its way to the Switch 2 when Stardew Valley Nintendo Switch 2 Edition launches in Fall 2025.
