Gamers who own a PS Vita or PS3 and PlayStation Plus can get Stardew Valley for free right now – and not just tied to the limited PS Plus license. By claiming the game via free cross-buy on the PS Vita or PS3, PlayStation gamers can own Stardew Valley for free forever, with no strings attached.
Stardew Valley is a wildly popular farming simulator released in 2016 to critical acclaim. Since then, it has been one of the highest-rated games on Steam, only occasionally trading the top spot with titles like Portal 2. Stardew Valley is so successful that it is one of the headlining titles that can be claimed for free via PlayStation Plus in September, giving fans access to it for as long as they are a subscriber.
Oddly Enough, Stardew Valley 1.7 and Cyberpunk 2077 2.3 Are in the Same Boat
Two very different games keep finding ways to refuse the finish line, adding one more surprise update long after players thought the work was over.
However, there is a trick some gamers can use to add Stardew Valley to their collections permanently, regardless of their future PS Plus subscription status. Discovered by popular video game content creator Wario64, players with a PS Vita or PS3 can use the cross-buy feature in their respective stores to get Stardew Valley for free after claiming it via PlayStation Plus. By doing so, the game is added to their library permanently on all three consoles, independent of the normal PS Plus license restrictions.
How to Get Stardew Valley For Free Permanently
- Claim Stardew Valley via PlayStation Plus
-
Purchase Stardew Valley for free via cross-buy from one of the following stores:
- PS Vita
- PS3
- PSN webstore (this method may not work for everyone)
Upon further investigation, Wario64 discovered that this function seemingly did not even require a PS Vita or PS3. Navigating to the PSN webstore gave them the option to simply re-buy Stardew Valley for free after claiming the PS+ version, with many other fans repeating this trick successfully. That said, some players have reported issues with this method, such as the option not showing up in the PSN app, if at all.
It is possible this PlayStation trick is the result of an unintentional error that could be fixed in the future. Qualifying fans who would like to own Stardew Valley on these consoles should be sure to use one of these methods soon, just in case.
Of course, Stardew Valley is only one of three games players can get through PlayStation Plus in September. Psychonauts 2, the 2021 sequel to the cult classic action adventure platformer from 2005, can also be claimed for free by subscribers right now, alongside the 2023 indie puzzle game Viewfinder. Between these games and Stardew Valley, PlayStation gamers should have plenty of exciting titles to try out this month.
