Fishing is an essential skill everyone needs to learn if they want to be completely self-sufficient in Stardew Valley. There is a wide variety of fish players can catch in the deep blue waters of the valley. Among these, the Perch stands out due to its distinctive yellow-green body with vertical stripes on the sides.
Perch are small fish, with sizes varying between 10 and 25 inches. As such, players often have a hard time locating them. This guide covers everything players need to know about catching Perch and using it to make profits in Stardew Valley.
Stardew Valley: How to Grow Garlic
Garlic is a cheap and useful crop in Stardew Valley, but you won't get easy access to it at first.
How to Catch Perch
Perch are freshwater fish and inhabit rivers, lakes, and ponds. Players can catch these fish in the following locations in Stardew Valley:
- The River flowing through Pelican Town and Cindersap Forest
- The Cindersap Forest Pond
- The Mountain Lake
However, these fish can only be caught in the Winter season. The weather or time of day does not influence the player’s ability to catch Perch. If players wish to catch Perch in other seasons, they can use a Magic Bait.
Additionally, those who have selected the Riverlands Farm, the Hill-top Farm, or the Wilderness Farm layouts can catch Perch by fishing on the premises of their farm.
Alternatively, if players don’t want to dedicate time to fishing, they can simply check Garbage Cans in Winter, as there are chances of finding Perch inside them. Perch fish may also randomly appear in the Traveling Cart with prices ranging from 165 to 1,000 gold.
Uses of Perch
The best use of the Perch fish in Stardew Valley is to sell it. The selling price of Perch varies based on its quality. Those with the Fisher or Angler Professions can enjoy higher prices.
| Quality | Sell Price | Price with Fisher Profession (+25%) | Price with Angler Profession (+50%) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Base | 55 g | 68 g | 82 g |
| Silver | 68 g | 85 g | 102 g |
| Gold | 82 g | 102 g | 123 g |
| Iridium | 110 g | 137 g | 165 g |
Besides selling Perch, players can use it for cooking Sashimi and Maki Rolls or crafting Quality Fertilizer.
Additionally, Perch fish may be requested in Winter at the “Help Wanted” board outside Pierre’s General Store as part of an Item Delivery or Fishing quest. In the Winter, Demetrius may also request players to catch 10 Perch fish at the “Special Orders” board, located outside the Mayor’s Manor, to help control the Aquatic Overpopulation. Completing these quests gives players unique rewards.
