Gamers may still have to wait a few weeks to get their hands on Bethesda’s Starfield, but they can start plotting out their progression now thanks to a handy skill tree assembled by one dedicated fan. Clearly a labor of love, the fan-made Starfield skill tree shows off every in-game skill revealed for the open-world, sci-fi RPG so far and gives gamers a hint of what to expect when the game releases.
First revealed at E3 2018 with a short teaser trailer, Starfield is developer Bethesda’s latest big-budget, open-world RPG. Abandoning the fantasy trappings of its The Elder Scrolls series for what the developer has dubbed a “NASA punk” aesthetic, Starfield’s sci-fi setting sees Bethesda adapting its tried-and-true open-world formula for a whole new setting. While the setting may be drastically different from existing Bethesda games like Skyrim, many of the gameplay systems in Starfield should feel familiar to players of Bethesda’s previous releases. From choosing the best options from a dialogue tree to win over or intimidate key story characters, to pickpocketing NPCs in Starfield’s bustling cities, many classic RPG tropes appear in the game with a shiny new sci-fi sheen.
Unwilling to wait for Bethesda to officially unveil it, one dedicated fan of Starfield took it upon themselves to create a near-complete skill tree for the upcoming RPG. Prefacing their post by noting that it is just speculation at this point, Redditor asd8dhd posted a photo of their carefully assembled Starfield skill tree showing the different abilities players will be able to choose from in the game. Some of the information used to create the handy resource was gathered from June’s Starfield Direct, where Bethesda explained Starfield’s skill tree in depth, while other insights were gleaned from the numerous screenshots and videos of the game released to date.
Starfield fans on Reddit seemed to appreciate asd8dhd’s hard work, with several replies thanking them for taking the time to carefully research their speculative skill tree before posting it. Other responses questioned how closely the fan-made skill tree will match the options actually available in Starfield’s full release, but thanked them for their work regardless. One user chimed in to joke that asd8dhd should put in another 200 hours of research to create a map of the game’s explorable planets, only to be met with a reply showing that another resourceful Starfield fan had already done just that.
While the countless hours of research that went into it are definitely commendable, gamers will have to wait until Starfield’s September 6 release to see how closely this fan-made skill tree matches the real thing. That is, assuming that their Starfield Constellation Edition pre-order doesn’t get inexplicably canceled before then.
Starfield launches September 6 on PC and Xbox Series X/S.
