While uncovering the many secrets of Starfield's electric city, Neon, players can join the ranks of the local Ryujin Industries. These missions will take players through a series of corporate espionage tasks, including breaking into Ryujin Industries itself during the Background Checks mission. Players will have the option to use stealth of force to get past Ryujin Industries, this guide will help players quietly navigate to Director Ularu's office and access her computer files.

Ryujin missions revolve around corporate espionage, and often require slick conversation skills, hacking skills, and the ability to hide from enemies. Stealth, Persuasion, Diplomacy, and Security Skills are highly recommended when attempting these missions if players do not wish to shoot their way through.

Starting Background Checks

As players complete the Top Secrets mission during the conversation with Masako Imada in Starfield, the Background Checks mission will automatically register. Masako will tell players to head to the lower floor of the Executive Level and speak with the Security Director, Dalton Fiennes. His office will be located on the east end of the first executive floor, and Dalton can be found just outside his office in a partition filled with computer servers.

Start a conversation with Dalton, and he will inform players of the company's plan to resolve the mole issue, Security Directive Theta. Dalton explains for this security measure players will have to sneak into the building pretending to be an outside party and install a virus on Director Ularu's computer, acquired from a hacker named Nyx. Dalton will then tell players to meet Nyx at Madame Sauvage's Palace when ready to infiltrate the company headquarters.

Meeting Nyx and Entering Ryujin

Once players are finished speaking to Dalton in the Ryujin Headquarters, return to Neon Core and head towards Madame Sauvage's in Ebbside. Enter the bar, and find Nyx on the first floor against the wall to the left. Initiate a conversation and mention Security Directive Theta and Nyx will begin to inform players about the program he wrote for the directive.

In order to acquire the slate, players will have to pay 2500 credits to Nyx, unless Starfield's Persuasion or Bribery skills are unlocked. Successfully bribing or persuading Nyx can drop the amount to as low as 1000 credits. Pay the credits and Nyx will give players the slate with the program created to copy and acquire all the files from Ularu's computer. Take the slate and exit Madame Sauvage's Palace.

At this point, players should prepare to infiltrate Ryujin Industries. Having the void form power or the Chameleon effect on a piece of equipment is highly encouraged for those hoping to complete the mission without resorting to violence. Additionally, players can return to Bayu Plaza and the Ryujin main lobby and sneakily steal one of the Novablast Disruptors hanging on the wall in the left segment. While players receive a disruptor from Dalton at the start of this mission, there is a chance one of the disruptors in the Ryujin lobby is upgraded with modifications. Once prepared for infiltration, return to Ebbside.

Players will want to follow the alley between Madame Sauvage's and the transition between Ebbside and Bayu Plaza and head up the first flight of stairs to a second staircase that winds up to the very top of Neon. Follow the second staircase all the way up – at the very end of the staircase players should find a red button immediately in front of them. Activate the button to move the crane off the edge of the city and reposition the storage crates and scaffolding.

Carefully navigate to the far edge and leap to the scaffolding - if players can get inside the storage crate there is a searchable crate that offers a skip boostpack. Move through the crate and jump to the scaffolding below, following around the building and entering the vent into Ryujin Industries.

Once inside the building, be sure to search the storage box on the barrels to the left. There will be an open grate above the barrels that players can use to climb into the vents. In the vents, players will find a switch that can power down the lights on the first floor. After that, follow the vents and take a left turn before dropping through the opening at the end of the vent.

Open the door and begin sneaking through the lobby. There will be a security guard directly to the front that players can pass by moving slowly and hugging the far right wall. Sneak into the open area to the right with the desk and continue forward taking the door to the drone demo area.

There will be another guard in the hallway outside the demo area to the left, turn right after exiting the demo room and open the door against the right wall. This will lead to a staircase that players can use to ascend a few floors. Take the stairs to the top, and there will be a door on the right at the top landing that will open into a bathroom.

The first room in the bathroom will have a hatch in the ceiling that players can open and climb back into the vents. Follow the vents, take a left turn, and open the hatch to drop into the Operations level. Players will need to make their way across the main waiting area of the level or follow the hall against the East end of the building timing movements with the guard patrolling up and down the hallway.

If players take the hallway, there is an office hallway down the hall that can be used to hide from the guard. There is a safe in this office with an advanced level lock that if opened will offer credits and a reconstim which will reduce visibility and noise for a short time.

Once the security guard passes, players can rush down the hall and take the first right into a partition with a storage box on the table on the left and an access door back into the vents straight ahead. Open the door and then do the same for the vent on the left immediately inside. Climb up the hatch in the ceiling. The vent will ramp up, make a U-turn to the right, and ramp up further.

At the top, climb up through the hatch and follow the vent to the right, dropping through the hatch at the very end. In this security room players will find another advanced level safe that can be hacked. When ready, open the door and take the first staircase down on the right. There is a security guard off the left edge of the stairs, but players should be able to sneak down the stairs and access the vent towards the top of the wall slightly to the left without drawing the guards' attention.

In this next vent, turn left and then drop down.

This section will most likely require the flashlight to navigate.

In the vent, follow these directions: turn left, then right, and finally climb up the hatch. There will be an exit back into the main area of the Research and Development floor, patrolled by a Model A Security robot. Players will want to head out of the vent and to the left, so wait until the robot walks past to the right and sneak by while its back is turned.

In the next room, there is a guard on the right side that players can sneak by or climb over the desk on the far left and head up the stairs. Turn right at the top of the stairs and players will see the next vent entrance on top of some filing cabinets.

Climb back into the vents, and head up the ramp to the right. At the top level, open the vent exit on the right and exit onto the ledge. Follow the ledge to the left and climb onto the metal beams. Take the beams across to the opposite side of the room and enter back into the vents.

This vent will turn to the right and offer another exit that drops players right behind the guard watching the stairs between the lower and upper levels of the executive floors. Head for the stairs leading up to Ularu and Masako's offices when the security guard below is not looking.

There will be one final guard watching the reception area by Ularu's office, watch her movement and sneak to Ularu's office when her back is turned. Once in Ularu's office, players should be safe from the guards, feel free to hack the safe, take the weapons off the rack, and grab the digipicks on the desk. When ready, interact with the computer and upload the rover program. Once the program runs its course, players can use the starmap to fast travel back to the Neon Core rather than sneak their way back out of the office.

Returning to Nyx for Decryption

starfield - background checks - nyx apartment

With the files in hand, players will want to find Nyx at his apartment in Ebbside. From Bayu Plaza, take the Ebbside entrance near Madame Sauvage's Palace and head to the left and around to the back of Madame Sauvage's. The alley behind the Palace will lead to a spiral staircase that players can climb to Nyx's apartment.

Nyx will be waiting inside, give him the slate and wait for him to decrypt the information. After a few moments, players can talk to Nyx again, and he will return the slate for delivery to Dalton. If players choose to pry, they can have Nyx elaborate on whom the guilty party may be.

Once the conversation is finished, players will want to return the information to Dalton Fiennes on the Ryujin Industries Executive Level. Once the conversation with Dalton concludes, players will complete the Background Checks mission and the Guilty Parties mission will register.

Starfield is available now on PC and Xbox.
