The beauty of Starfield doesn’t just come from the cosmic love of stars and planets, but from the utter sense of freedoms players can achieve when they invest in their own unique abilities and weapons. Starfield presents so many options to the player that they can create an endless supply of builds to make themselves the best of the best and become proficient in specific skills and weapons that will make them into a killer that the galaxy will fear or love. If players want to alter their build or remove traits in Starfield, then they can do so freely.
Players can create some of the best builds in Starfield with varied means of skills and weapons, all to make them the most powerful they can be. When players combine the right powers, they will become unstoppable, it just depends on what they are looking for. Whether it’s wielding a gun bigger than a person, running around at intense speeds, or even punching foes to death, this guide will aim to provide the best Starfield builds and utilize the best traits.
5 Heavy Tank Build
Traits:
- Alien DNA – Increased health and oxygen, but less effective healing items.
- Terra Firma – Increase health and oxygen when on the surface, less health and oxygen in space.
- Extrovert – Consumes less oxygen when joined by a companion.
A tank build is a certainty for some players, especially in Starfield. The idea of being this hulking character that can shrug off bullets and deal a whopping amount of damage to those that oppose them is a prospect that many enjoy, even if the drawback is often that their damage is slow. Players should not be deterred by the slow firing of their weapon, because once it gets rolling, there’s no turning back for the enemies that opposed the player, whether they are Crimson Fleet or United Colonies.
To ensure the best from this build, players should wield any Microgun or Smartgun. These Heavy Weapons use the same commonly found 7.77mm bullets. Simply hold the fire trigger to allow the gun to spin up, and watch the barrage of bullets fly.
- Weight Lifting – Rank 4 provides an increased carry capacity by 100 kilograms, and a 50% resistance to stagger.
- Wellness – Rank 4 increases maximum health by 40%
- Fitness – Rank 3 will give players a 30% bonus to their oxygen levels.
- Pain Tolerance – Rank 3 reduces physical damage by 15%.
- Energy Weapon Dissipation – Rank 3 will reduce Energy damage by 15%.
- Environmental Conditioning – Rank 3 will provide 10 resistance to Airborne, Thermal, Corrosive, and Radiation environmental damage.
- Heavy Weapons Certification – Rank 4 provides a 25% physical resistance while aiming down sights, and a 30% increase in heavy weapon damage.
- Isolation – Rank 4 grants a 40% bonus to weapon damage and a 60 Damage Resistance when wearing a Spacesuit and Helmet if the player is without a companion or crew.
4 The Mandalorian
- No essential Traits or Background
If there’s one thing that’s consistent with the Mandalorians seen in Star Wars, it’s that they love a good jetpack joyride. Players can replicate this to a degree with a few perks, ensuring that they can become a volley of death from above, sticking to the skies with their Boostpack and laying waste to all that oppose them from below.
Truly, any Rifle will do the job, but a personal preference has to be the Revenant, a gun with a ridiculously high rate of fire, along with a laser targeting system to make more accurate shots. The use of.50 MI Array bullets means players will never be in short supply. The Revenant can be acquired during the Eye of the Storm mission for the Crimson Fleet. Otherwise, feel free to use any rifle.
- Ballistics – Rank 4 increases Ballistic weapon damage by 30%, as well as the range of these weapons by another 30%.
- Rifle Certification – Rank 4 gives players a 30% increase in damage with Rifles, along with a 30% increase in reload speed if the player is standing still.
- Armor Penetration – Rank 3 of this Combat Skill will ignore 50% of the target’s armor.
- Pain Tolerance – Rank 4 allows players to ignore physical damage if their health is low with a 5% chance, and it also permanently reduces physical damage by 15%.
- Boost Pack Training – Rank 4 will double the bonuses of this Tech Skill, ensuring that players can utilize boost packs, use less fuel, and regenerate fuel, far quicker than normal.
- Boost Assault Training – Rank 4 allows players to hover in the air when aiming down sights whilst boosting, it will also slow the world around the player by 70% until the boost fuel is empty.
3 Silent But Deadly
Traits:
- Introvert – Consume less oxygen when venturing alone.
- Terra Firma – Health and oxygen permanently increase on the surface, but decrease while in space.
Stealth is an art form that is better done alone. With this silent build, players will be able to stalk through the battlefield without their enemies even being aware of their presence. If done right, players can feel like a true stealth archer of old, except this time, they are paired with a gun that can do far more damage than an arrow ever could.
Whilst any weapon with a suppressor will work, purchasing a pistol is probably the best idea. A pistol is lightweight and agile, meaning players can be far more efficient and reactive when firing a pistol. It’s worth noting that the suppressor attachment is the only real essential towards this stealth build in Starfield.
- Stealth – Rank 4 provides a 100% bonus to stealth, with a 20% bonus to sneak attack damage. Players can also open doors without alerting enemies.
- Concealment – Rank 4 provides a 4x damage bonus to ranged sneak attacks, as well as a Chameleon-like ability when still and sneaking. Running also won’t affect stealth, and players won’t set off enemy mines.
- Pistol Certification – Rank 3 will provide pistols with 50% more damage.
- Armor Penetration – Rank 3 allows players to ignore 50% of their target’s armor.
- Marksmanship – Rank 4 allows critical hits with a non-automatic weapon without a scope to deal double damage, as well as an increase to critical hit chance by 15%.
- Ballistics – Ballistic weapons and their range is increased by 30%.
- Isolation – Rank 4 grants a 40% bonus to weapon damage and a 60 Damage Resistance when wearing a Spacesuit and Helmet if the player is without a companion or crew.
2 Speed Demon
- No essential Traits or Background
There’s nothing more thrilling than running at high speeds towards a target in Starfield. Players can get up close and personal with this build, enabling them to do some serious damage to their targets and leave whoever is behind them in the dust, all thanks to the combination of the best skills in Starfield and a powerful shotgun to literally blow their enemies away.
For this build, players are going to want to equip a shotgun of their choice. A shotgun can be purchased from near enough any vendor, but it’s preferable that players pick up a ballistic shotgun, like a Coachman thanks to the fact that it’s a double-barrelled weapon that truly packs a violent punch.
- Ballistics – Rank 4 increases weapon range and damage from ballistic weapons by 30%.
- Shotgun Certification – Rank 4 will provide a 30% bonus damage stat to shotguns, as well as a small chance to stun targets after an enemy has been killed with a shotgun.
- Rapid Reloading – Rank 4 Allows a 30% reload to Ballistic weapons, a 50% chance to avoid a reload interruption, and a chance that hitting an enemy will increase reload speed by 50% for 15 seconds.
- Armor Penetration – Rank 3 will ignore 50% of the target’s armor.
- Fitness – Rank 4 will allow players to sprint and consume less oxygen, whilst also providing a 30% bonus to oxygen.
- Wellness – Rank 4 increases maximum health by 40%.
- Pain Tolerance – Rank 4 provides a 15% physical damage reduction, and a 5% chance to ignore physical damage if health is low.
1 Fisticuffs
Traits:
- Alien DNA – Increased health and oxygen, but less effective healing items.
- Introvert – Consume less oxygen when venturing alone.
Sometimes it’s time to take the gloves off and set aside those futuristic weapons for something more primal. With this build, players can run into the battlefield with their fists raised, ready to punch anyone and anything that is brave enough to get in their way. This build is not for the faint of heart, as the act of punching things to death may not be for everyone.
In this build, players need no weapons at all and simply need to rely on their classic hands to do the work for them. There are plenty of Skills in Starfield that add bonuses to these unarmed attacks so players can fully unlock the art of martial arts and boxing.
- Boxing – Rank 4 provides a 100% bonus damage to unarmed attacks, and players use 30% less O2 in a fight if they are sprinting. They also have a chance to knockdown opponents.
- Fitness – Rank 4 gives players 30% more oxygen as well as less consumption of O2 when using power attacks or sprinting.
- Wellness – Rank 4 will give players a 40% increase to their maximum health.
- Pain Tolerance – Rank 4 helps with a 5% chance to ignore physical damage when in low health, as well as a permanent 15% reduction to physical damage.
- Martial Arts – Rank 4 allows for a 50% chance to reflect incoming damage if it's blocked, as well as a 10% damage reduction, a 15% chance to disarm opponents, and a 15% increased chance for a critical hit.
- Neurostrikes – Rank 4 gives players a 20% chance to stun an enemy with an unarmed attack, and if an enemy has been stunned, nearby enemies will be knocked down. Unarmed attacks also deal extra EM damage.
- Rejuvenation – Rank 4 is a great bonus, allowing players to regenerate health extremely fast outside of combat, and moderately so whilst in combat.
