When Bethesda announced that Starfield would allow players to change their pronouns, it sparked some controversies within gaming communities—with some supporting the decision and others rallying against it. Of course, Bethesda made it clear that Starfield's approach to pronoun selection would differ significantly from that of Cyberpunk 2077, where gender was tied to the chosen voice. However, not all gamers were satisfied with how the company handled the situation.

Despite all the Starfield pronoun controversies, there are still players who either skipped the pronoun selection during character creation or are seeking to change it after playing for a while. This guide aims to help these players by explaining how they can modify their pronouns without resetting progress or altering avatars' body types.

To change an avatar’s pronoun, pay 500 Credits to an Enhance employee. They will then reopen the character customization menu and let players pick a new pronoun. In the modification menu, tap X (Finish) and Y (Pronoun) to alter gender.

New players won’t need to pay Credits to change their pronouns. All they need to do is press Y (B on PC) when completing their profile—right after picking the starting Traits.

Starfield’s options for pronouns are He/Him, She/Her, and They/Them. But at first, the game will pick one based on the players’ Body Type. Although, it’s worth noting that changing pronouns in Starfield won’t affect appearance.

As the dialogues in Starfield are gender-neutral, altering pronouns will have no impact on the main story. Players can engage in romances with various characters regardless of how they are addressed. Pronouns are mostly used in texts referring to the protagonist rather than being a part of conversations.

How Many Times Can Players Change Pronouns

There is no limit on how many times players can alter their pronouns. As long as they have 500 Credits for Enhance operations, they can shift between all three pronoun options freely.
