Summary
- A fan of Starfield built a high-end themed PC with official branding, which cost over AU$6,000.
- Despite mixed responses to the Shattered Space DLC, fan support and ongoing updates will likely maintain Starfield's audience.
A Starfield player crafted a custom, high-end gaming PC based on the game's logos and art style and shared the finished product on social media. The Starfield PC builder also shared the specifications of their new gaming rig, including how much each part costs in their local currency, and received compliments from their peers for their work.
The PC build was shared just days after Starfield released its Shattered Space expansion, the first planned DLC for Bethesda's space-faring title. While the base game of Starfield focused on exploring multiple planets and star systems as part of the plot, the Shattered Space DLC honed in on a single, mysterious planet called Var'uun'kai. Following its release, the Shattered Space expansion received mostly negative reviews on Steam due to bugs and various issues called out by players. The negative feedback from Starfield players prompted a reply from lead designer Emil Pagliarulo, who remained "very proud" of the work put into the expansion.
Although Starfield and Shattered Space require a decent gaming PC to run at the best settings, one fan went above the mark with their new build. A Reddit user named Sebster343_GameZ shared their latest PC build on the r/Starfield subreddit with a picture and a list of parts they used in the build. The build was housed in an NZXT H5 Flow case and was powered by AMD's Radeon RX 7900 XTX graphics card, which had 24GB of video memory and was attached to a vertical bracket. Both the NZXT case and the Radeon GPU had official Starfield branding, and were the motivation behind Sebster343_GameZ's build. The main processor was an AMD Ryzen 9 7900X slotted into an MSI MPG B650 Edge Wi-Fi motherboard. Sebster343_GameZ used an 850W power supply from MSI, 32GB of Corsair Vengeance DDR5 RAM, and an NZXT Kraken Elite 240mm all-in-one (AIO) liquid cooler.
Starfield Player Builds Thematic High-End Gaming PC
The cooler's main display was also themed on Starfield's Constellation faction and could show CPU temperatures when powered on. With an AMD Ryzen processor and a Radeon RX GPU, Sebster343_GameZ's PC can utilize features from AMD's latest drivers, such as Fluid Motion Frames 2 and FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR). Sebster343_GameZ said that the graphics card cost them AU$2,500 and the total build cost was roughly AU$6,000, or over US$4,000. Several Starfield players congratulated Sebster343_GameZ on their new PC build.
Between ongoing patch support and fan-created works, Starfield still maintains an audience despite the mixed response to Shattered Space. What Bethesda will do in future content updates remains to be seen.
