For those anxious to return to Starfield, Bethesda has confirmed that the DLC will release at 8:00am PT/10:00am CT/11:00am ET on Monday, September 30. At that point, anyone that owns the DLC and has at least completed the One Small Step quest and has grav-jumped to an orbit not currently in use by another mission or encounter will be able to start the expansion. However, Bethesda has warned that while anyone with access to the DLC can start it right away, it's best for Starfield players to be at least level 35 before starting the expansion.

Accessing the Starfield Shattered Space DLC will require players to have the Premium version of the game. This version gives players access to a variety of other goodies on top of DLC access, but it means that Xbox Game Pass subscribers can't play the DLC without paying extra. Those that do have access to the DLC can download now in preparation for the expansion's launch on September 30.
