Many RPGs suffer from an unbalanced in-game economy, with players being able to earn more currency through legitimate means than they could ever reasonably spend, and plenty of players have been running into this problem in Starfield recently. With no limit for the amount of currency players can earn, and the game’s open nature allowing players to pursue a wide variety of lucrative activities, Starfield’s community is calling for a proper solution for this long-standing problem with an endgame currency sink.
Considering that Bethesda’s other RPGs beyond Starfield often fall victim to this same problem of having an unbalanced endgame economy, there’s growing pressure for Starfield to solve this problem in a way that could potentially carry on in Bethesda’s future RPGs after S tarfield, namely The Elder Scrolls and Fallout franchises. However, given how tall of a task this is, it could be a while before such a feature ever comes to Starfield, assuming it happens at all, so this responsibility may end up falling on Bethesda’s future games instead.
Why a Starfield-Like Fallout Game Isn’t Out of the Realm of Possibility
Bethesda's approach to the next Fallout game is a mystery, but taking inspiration from Starfield could help build a new wasteland.
Starfield Highlights a Common Problem With Bethesda’s RPGs
While Bethesda is known for making impressively open-ended RPGs, the freedoms these games grant players can come with some unforeseen side effects during extended playthroughs. Such is the case with Starfield, as players have been voicing their concerns about the in-game economy becoming increasingly unbalanced as players naturally progress through the game.
Bethesda’s RPGs Often Suffer From Unbalanced Endgame Economies
This has only recently become a trending issue for Starfield players, although the situation has shed light on how this is a recurring problem among Bethesda’s beloved RPG franchises that frequently provide players with too many sources of in-game currencies and too few sources of worthwhile investments. As fans continue to voice their concerns about Starfield’s unbalanced economy, it may help to inspire change, but realistically, it could take a while for Bethesda to address this issue due to being a deep issue that no simple fix could resolve.
Even beyond Bethesda’s famous franchises, RPGs in general often suffer from an unbalanced endgame economy. However, as a leading industry development studio, Bethesda’s solution to this issue could inspire a new standard across the genre.
Starfield’s Endgame Economy Might Already Be Past the Point of Fixing
There was hope among Starfield’s community that the new Shattered Space DLC would address the unbalanced endgame economy, but unfortunately, this didn’t happen. Generally, the new activities and quests added in Starfield’s Shattered Space DLC only added to this problem, driving the economy to become further unbalanced.
Since Starfield’s Creation Club offers mod support for both console and PC platforms, players can address the in-game economy’s balancing issues with community mods, though this is far from an ideal solution.
If things continue as they are for too much longer, Starfield’s in-game economy will continue to get worse. Consequently, a proper solution to this problem will become increasingly difficult to implement considering that it will have to satisfy players who have reached ludicrous amounts of credits. At an extreme, this problem could become near impossible for Starfield to solve.
Starfield could still yet solve this problem considering that Shattered Space may not be Starfield’s only DLC.
Despite being highly requested among the game’s community, Starfield may never solve this problem and players might have to resort to changed playstyles or community mods for Starfield for a proper solution to a balanced economy. Ultimately, Bethesda’s future RPGs could prove to be the best chance to solve this problem once and for all, since they would have the benefit of starting from a clean slate, whereas Starfield would have its work cut out to cater to players who have long since passed the economy’s breaking point.
