If rumors are proven true, the next Starfield expansion may be on the horizon, but just a little bit later than expected. According to industry insider Jez Corden and well-known leaker NateTheHate, Starfield is set to get at least one more DLC, with the former even stating that it may arrive by early 2026.

When discussing the future of Starfield in an online forum, NateTheHate commented, "Another DLC expansion is still to come -- though it doesn't seem like it'll make 2025 at this point." Of course, claims as bold as these need to be taken with a heavy grain of salt, but it could mean that Starfield's yearly expansion plans are already off course. Bethesda intended for Starfield to receive annual DLCs, but if these rumors are true, players may have to wait longer than hoped for. At first, this sounds like potential bad news, but an expansion delay may actually be what Starfield needs.

Fallout 5’s Rumored Greenlight May Be the Final Nail in the Coffin for Starfield

Starfield has been on the back burner for a while, and it looks like that'll continue to be the case, if recent Fallout 5 rumors are accurate.

Starfield's Next Expansion Potentially Needing More Time in the Oven is Actually a Promising Sign

  • Starfield's first and only DLC, Shattered Space, was released on September 30, 2024.

There has been speculation that development on Starfield's second expansion has been going on for a while now, which could bode well for its state at launch. Shattered Space failed to reignite excitement for the game, leaving its second expansion with an incredibly difficult task. Starfield has its strengths, but it ultimately failed to live up to the massive hype surrounding it, and that reputation has plagued the sci-fi adventure ever since. After Shattered Space's launch, Bethesda has kept incredibly silent about what Starfield's future plans are. This has even led some to theorize that Bethesda is set to abandon the game altogether.

Of course, there's no way to know for sure until the developer confirms such theories, but it's not surprising that a fraction of players have jumped to such conclusions. However, if a dev team has truly been working on a second Starfield expansion for a while and is taking their time, it could signal that a lot of care and effort is going into the production, and that hopefully means a stronger product.

Jez Corden has also recently claimed that Fallout 5 has officially been greenlit.

Fresh Starfield News May Be Right Around the Corner

  • Bethesda has been confirmed for Gamescom next month.
  • Gamescom's Opening Night Live event airs on August 19.
  • The rest of the event runs from August 20-24.

Bethesda being present at Gamescom is a big deal, because this event is usually one of the biggest stages to make big announcements over the summer. The Opening Night Live ceremony on August 19 is when a lot of developers either showcase fresh footage from already-announced projects or lift the veil on completely new games.

After not being present at Summer Game Fest or last month's Xbox Games Showcase, Gamescom is the next best place for Bethesda to reveal major updates. Starfield fans have eagerly been awaiting news, and next month will hopefully shed some light on what might be in store for the game later this year or early 2026.

Bethesda is also developing The Elder Scrolls 6, which was announced all the way back in 2018.

Also, with rumors of a Starfield PS5 port continuing to spread like wildfire, Gamescom might be the place where it's made official. There's no telling when Starfield will get another expansion, if at all. There could be one more chapter left for the space-faring RPG, but only time will tell. Jez Corden and NateTheHate's words hopefully prove true, though. Starfield still has potential, but the ultimate fate of the game likely hinges on Bethesda taking player criticisms to heart and ensuring that the next DLC feels full of life.
