Summary

  • A determined Starfield player recreates Fallout's Prydwen in-game, adapting it for space travel.
  • Despite diverging timelines, fans enjoy creating crossovers between Bethesda's RPG worlds.

One Starfield player is taking a page out of a different Bethesda RPG, using the game's ship-building tools and some mods to recreate an M-Class version of The Prydwen from Fallout 4. While building and customizing ships is a big part of Starfield's appeal, and players have used its ship-building tools to make some unique creations, most player-created ships don't cause a crossover between Bethesda's game worlds.

In canon, The Prydwen is a massive airship that serves as a mobile base of operations for the militaristic Brotherhood of Steel in Fallout 4, and it also appears in the game's Amazon Prime streaming television series adaptation. Depending on their characters' choices in Fallout 4, players will either see The Prydwen become a floating safe haven from the dangers of the Commonwealth below or an enemy stronghold that they'll need to take down.

This player-created version of The Prydwen shares a lot of similarities with its Fallout versions in terms of design, though it's obviously been built to withstand the harshness of space, replacing its hydrogen-filled gas bags with a much sturdier and secure hull. Created and shared by Reddit user FreeSyllabub7539, the post contains several pictures of the massive ship flying through space and grounded on planets. The creator noted they weren't able to share any interior shots, because while they tried to arrange the Starfield ship hab modules to mirror the Fallout 4 version of The Prydwen, there ended up being a lot of unintentional clipping in the interior sections.

Fallout Comes to Starfield With This Prydwen Ship Build

Aside from the obvious adaptation for space travel, there is one other glaring difference that sets this Prydwen apart from the original. The original version can only be accessed by Vertibird helicopters, and the mobile base doubles as a floating aircraft carrier for them. This player's version cleverly swaps out Vertibirds for a couple copies of Starfield's Frontier ship, the starting ship that players are given by Barrett after the game's opening sequence. The creator indicated that the extra ships aren't funtional but commented, "wouldn't that be a dream come true?"

In terms of lore, while there are a lot of similarities between Starfield and the Fallout series in terms of gameplay, they don't take place in the same timeline, despite game director Todd Howard telling the Washington Post in 2023 that he had considered it. That means that this version of The Prydwen couldn't have been a lost relic from before the destruction of Earth's magnetosphere. Still, the custom ship seems to be getting a lot of positive attention and is a fun way for fans to weave Bethesda's RPG franchises together.
