Summary
- A Starfield player created a faithful, in-game version of Spaceballs' Eagle 5 ship.
- In Starfield, fans can recreate iconic ships from movies like Spaceballs with customization tools.
One creative Starfield player who's also clearly a fan of Mel Brooks' comedies has managed to create a working, in-game version of the Eagle 5 from the classic 1987 film Spaceballs. Resembling a Winnebago with wings, the spaceship that Lone Starr and Barf cruise around the galaxy in isn't the type of ship most Starfield fans would expect to see in its skies.
A comedic parody of the outer space sci-fi movie genre, Spaceballs is counted by many fans among Brooks' best films. It contains several key similarities to the Star Wars franchise, including duels with laser swords, but humorously tweaks them, like replacing The Force with The Scwartz and having the main character be trained in its ways by a wise, diminutive alien named Yogurt. Star Wars creator George Lucas called Spaceballs better than The Force Awakens, noting that even without its comedic tie-ins, it would still be a great adventure movie.
Starfield Player Builds Impressive Turtle Ship
Starfield offers great ship customization, and one player uses the mechanic to build an impressive turtle-inspired spacecraft.
It certainly seems to be loved by Reddit user lililiilillil, who used Starfield's ship customization tools and, presumably, some mods, to bring the Eagle 5 to a new galaxy. The Starfield fan posted 20 different angles of the dual-engine ship, which appears to use only a single 3x1 hab unit as its base. There are some minor differences between the fan-made ship and the movie version due to the selection of cosmetic items in the game, but it appears to be a pretty faithful recreation of Lone Starr's ship.
Starfield Player Makes The Eagle 5 Winnebago Ship From Space Balls
The Reddit user didn't go into any detail about their process or the parts used to bring the classic Spaceballs ship to Starfield, so keen-eyed players will have to pick it apart visually to see all the parts used in its creation. However, the creator does seem to want an even more immersive Spaceballs experience in the game, asking if any modders are able to transform Starfield's robotic companion character Vasco into Dot Matrix, the sassy, C-3PO-like robot played by Joan Rivers in the film.
While Spaceballs is a pretty old movie at this point, having released 37 years ago, it has a lasting legacy that seems to appeal to a lot of players. Starfield isn't the only game to have seen a fan-made crossover in recent years, either, as one DOOM 2 modder combined the game with Spaceballs in 2020, swapping in enemies clad in classic Spaceballs battle armor and including its own, much lower-res, version of the Eagle 5.
