Summary
- A new Doom-inspired quest in Starfield offers a Praetor Suit, Super Shotgun, and Crucible Blade for players to unlock.
- The At Hell's Gate quest should attract both Doom and Starfield fans.
- Rumors are circulating about id Software's next game, Doom: The Dark Ages, regarding a possible appearance at The Game Awards.
Starfield has received a new free quest that includes a set of Doom-inspired items that have been added by a team of Bethesda Creation Club modders. The Creation Club went live for Starfield earlier this year to much controversy as gamers weren't happy about having to pay for Bethesda's official Tracker's Alliance quests. Despite this, creators have been making a variety of interesting and wacky mods, many of which have brought a number of Star Wars and other pop culture characters to the sci-fi RPG.
Doom has also been back in the limelight in recent months, as franchise developer id Software revealed the next big title in the acclaimed FPS reboot series, Doom: The Dark Ages, back in June as part of Xbox's celebrated Summer Game Fest showcase. As its title suggests, Doom: The Dark Ages takes players back in time to see the Doom Slayer wield melee weaponry like shields, maces, flails, and other barbaric tools of destruction. The short reveal trailer, which showcased short snippets of gameplay footage, stunned fans with its visuals and gory, high-octane action, becoming one of the more talked about reveals of Xbox's impressive showcase.
Impressive Starfield Mod Turns Shattered Space Into Star Wars Game
Starfield mods have borrowed from Star Wars in the past, and an ambitious project is turning the Shattered Space DLC into the Galaxy Far, Far Away.
Now, in the year of Doom's 31st anniversary, Starfield is receiving a new mini-quest and a set of items based on Doom thanks to Kinggath Creations. Named At Hell's Gate, the free quest doles out a number of enticing rewards after completing it, including the Praetor Suit from 2016's Doom reboot, the iconic double-barreled Super Shotgun, and the Crucible Blade melee weapon, which was featured prominently in Doom Eternal. Players can also gain access to a set of six Doom- inspired plushies they can use to deck out their ships and outposts.
Starfield At Hell's Gate Doom-Inspired Quest Rewards
- Doom Slayer Praetor Suit
- Super Shotgun
- Crucible Blade
Once the At Hell's Gate quest is installed, players can go to any of Starfield's four major cities and find a Settled Systems News Network (SSNN) booth to start their hellish journey and earn their Doom-inspired goodies. The release of this quest seems to have captured the attention of Doom fans under Bethesda's At Hell's Gate tweet, even from some gamers who skipped Starfield but are now interested in trying it just for this quest. It's a clear example of the ways Creation Club can revitalize interest in a game for those who otherwise wouldn't have played it. The Doom name surely helps too.
Starfield's At Hell's Gate mini-quest seems like a nice little taste of Doom, but many are still wondering about id Software's next big game, Doom: The Dark Ages. Naturally, some rumors have been floating around about the new Doom title showing up at Geoff Keighley's imminent 2024 Game Awards that go live on Thursday, December 12, but this has yet to be confirmed. The game is currently stamped with a 2025 release window, so a Game Awards appearance doesn't seem all that unlikely. Doom fans will have to tune into the show on Thursday to find out.
