Ships play a very important role in Starfield, and it is easy to spend a ton of credits buying and customizing these vessels. That said, there are several free ships in Starfield, which may be of interest to players that are low on funds. This guide is here to provide details on those ships, and it will help interested players get their hands on them.
Starfield: All Free Ships
Frontier
Players will receive this free ship almost immediately upon starting the game.
Star Eagle
Players can earn the Star Eagle ship by completing the Freestar Collective questline. To initiate this series of quests, fans must travel to Akila City, and that is something that will occur during Starfield's Empty Nest main quest. Upon reaching Akila City, players will receive the Jobs Gone Wrong quest from Marshal Daniel Blake, and addressing the quests that follow will ultimately lead to obtaining the free ship.
Razorleaf
This free ship is a reward for completing the Mantis side quest, which is initiated by reading the "Secret Outpost!" Text log that can be looted from Spacers. While some players will prefer to tackle this quest on their own, this complete guide to Starfied's Mantis side quest will be helpful to fans that simply want to obtain the Razorleaf as quickly as possible.
Kepler R & S
Upon completing the High Price to Pay main mission in Starfield, players will receive the Overdesigned side quest from Walter Shroud, which awards one of two free ships upon completion. Here are details on the actions that will lead to those two ships, and it is generally believed that the Kepler R is the better of the two options:
- Kepler R: Persuade Jules to work for a larger budget. Complete two missions. Pursue the team-build exercise.
- Kepler S: Settle for a smaller budget. Compromise with the team.
UC Prison Shuttle
While the UC Prison Shuttle is very far from the best ship in the game, it is free, and it is included here for the sake of completeness. To earn this ship, fans must work through Starfield's Crimson Fleet questline, which can be accessed by committing a crime and getting arrested in New Atlantis.
Wanderwell
Players that select the Kid Stuff trait during character creation will ultimately receive the Wanderwell as a gift from their parents. While it is true that the Kid Stuff trait does require fans to send 2% of their credits to these NPCs, that expense is insignificant enough to designate this ship as free, especially considering that it is not the only gift that players will receive.
NG+ Ship
The final free ship is awarded upon beating the game and starting an NG+ playthrough. This guide will not reveal any more information about this craft in an attempt to minimize spoilers.
Starfield is available now on PC and Xbox Series X/S.
