Starfield's latest free update has been released, and with it, many of the criticisms and concerns players had about the game have been addressed. One of the biggest frustrations for many players was the traversal mechanics. While jetpacks can be used to cover short distances, players were often left with long and tedious journeys across vast open distances, not helped by low carry weight thresholds and low-capacity oxygen meters.
With the introduction of the REV-8 vehicle, players will now be able to explore with much greater efficiency and also have a lot more fun doing so. In addition to driving, the REV-8 also has a similar boost ability, which can be used to either accelerate or jump in the air. This is the first time Bethesda has managed to successfully integrate a working vehicle inside the Creation engine. The result is quite impressive, even given the absence of any real crash physics.

How To Get The REV-8
To unlock the REV-8, players will need to head to a Ship Services Technician. These can typically be found at the spaceports in larger settlements such as New Atlantis and Akila City. Speaking to a Ship Services Technician will now reveal an additional dialogue option on top of the usual ship customization options. Selecting "I'd like to purchase a vehicle" will take players to a new screen where they can purchase the REV-8 for 25,000 credits.
Once purchased, the vehicle can then be customized with different colors, though no actual performance modifications yet exist in the game, at least not officially. Much like ships, it will be necessary to return to the Ship Services Technician to change the colors again in the future. Players may also notice that the REV-8 is presented as a 1/1 item, which implies that there may be further vehicles to come with the release of the Shattered Space DLC in September. Overall, the REV-8 is a very useful addition to the game, and it serves as more than a simple transportation device.

How To Use The REV-8
Once the vehicle has been purchased, it will automatically spawn alongside your ship in the nearest spaceport. Vehicles can be driven straight away, though the controls may take some getting used to, especially for players using a mouse-and-keyboard. In addition to regular driving, a boost can be triggered to enable the REV-8 to leap a considerable distance into the air. This is a far superior jump height to any ordinary pack and can be used to access new, previously inaccessible vantage points. For a bit of extra speed, the REV-8 has a horizontal boost. This can be especially useful when under pressure from enemies or leaping across smaller gorges and ravines. The REV-8 also has a built-in scanner, headlights, and even a laser cannon that can be fired in any direction.
The vehicle will automatically deploy next to the player's ship whenever it is landed, though it is worth keeping in mind that planetary effects such as low gravity will still influence the handling and movement of the vehicle. Players can also cycle between first and third-person modes depending on their personal preference for driving. It seems likely that further vehicles will be added to the game at a later time, though how different these will be from the REV-8, and whether they possess any unique features or modifications, remains to be seen.
Starfield: All Player Homes
There are several player homes available in Starfield, but gaining access to each one may require players to jump through some hoops.
