Players will spend dozens of hours exploring planets in Starfield, but before they learn the basics and grow used to some mechanics, they might have some difficulty getting to know all ship controls right away. Before stepping foot on a new planet, gamers will have to manually set course for it and then prepare the ship to land.

This guide will show Starfield players how they can set their ship's course and successfully land wherever they'd like on every available planet in the game. This is one of the most important aspects of Starfield, so it's absolutely necessary for players to get the hang of it as soon as possible.

How to Set Course

At first, it can be difficult to get the hang of some controls in Starfield, but as players progress and become more accustomed to the game's mechanics, it'll start to feel like second nature in no time. To land on a planet in Starfield, the player's ship must be orbiting it first. So, if they're too far away, they must open their Starmap and set course to wherever they'd like to land.

To set course towards a planet in Starfield, players can hover over it on the Starmap, choose the Set Course option, and press and hold the Travel button. Alternatively, they can also set course by selecting the planet, confirming the Travel prompt, and pressing and holding the travel button.

There are several ways to access the Starmap aboard the Frontier. Gamers can do it by opening the Navigation Console, opening the Pause Menu, or selecting Set Course on the cockpit.

How to Land

Once players are orbiting the planet that they'd like to visit, they'll be able to land on it. In order to select where they'd like to land, players must open the Starmap, zoom in on the planet, and set the landing target. Once they're satisfied with their choice, gamers only need to press and hold the Land button.

Although some planets have designated landing sites, players can set their landing target elsewhere and explore other areas. There are tons of resources to collect and unexplored sites to visit in order to completely survey the planet. Once players fully survey a planet, they'll receive a survey data disk, which they can then sell at high prices.

Starfield is now available for PC and Xbox Series X/S.
