Combat is an important part of Starfield, but it's definitely not all there is to it. The game has extensive skill trees, so players can build their character however they would like. There are all sorts of skills that are worth exploring, and as gamers increase their character's level, they'll be able to unlock tons of useful new abilities for their playthroughs.

This guide will focus on the pickpocketing ability in Starfield. It will show players how they can successfully pickpocket in the game, and it'll break down the Theft Skill tree.

How to Pickpocket

Besides their companions, players can pickpocket just about anyone in Starfield. Players must unlock the Theft Skill before anything else, as this is the skill that gives the ability to pickpocket.

Once gamers have unlocked pickpocketing, they'll be able to see what other characters have in their pockets by approaching them from behind while crouching and selecting the Pickpocket option. Characters won't be alarmed as long as the player doesn't steal anything - there's no problem in checking what's inside their pockets.

Players can choose any item that they would like and select the Steal option to grab it. The percentage displayed beside the item indicates the chances that the player has to successfully steal it. If there's a "detected" warning above, the success rate decreases significantly.

Players should invest in the Stealth Skill to make it easier for them to remain undetected while pickpocketing.

Theft Skill Ranks

Players can unlock the Theft Skill in the first row of the Social Skill Tree. As gamers increase their character's level in Starfield, they'll be able to gradually rank up their Theft Skill by successfully pickpocketing their targets.

Pickpocketing and stealing are considered illegal acts in the Settled System, so gamers will have to face justice if they're caught red-handed. If they're caught, there is a chance that they'll be wanted by the authorities, which might result in the player getting a bounty on their head or being arrested. The better the player's Theft Skill, the less likely they'll be to get caught while pickpocketing. Here are all available Theft Skill ranks and perks:
