Much like previous Bethesda titles, Starfield continues the tradition of offering players a large and immersive game world full of activities, lore, and interesting game mechanics. Just as in the Fallout series and Skyrim's Hearthfire expansion, players will be able to purchase and rent a variety of homes across the Settled Systems, and there are several ways to go about acquiring space properties. Starfield features a wider range of player homes than in any previous title. What's more, each one has its own distinct style and location that is sure to suit a variety of tastes and preferences.

Unlike Outposts, which are a separate gameplay element entirely, these properties exist in set locations within the world and cannot be redesigned in the way that a custom-built outpost can. However, some properties which the player can come to own will enable the customization of interior modules, giving players the ability to add facilities such as workbenches to help them on their adventures.

Rooms

Starfield New Atlanis Parents Home

In addition to purchasing a place of their own, players will also be lent rooms by various characters at points throughout the game. In these rooms, it will be possible to store items and sleep to pass time and regenerate health. These borrowed rooms are located in areas with plenty of NPCs around for players to interact with and get quests from. Unlike fully-owned properties, players will not be able to customize these borrowed rooms by re-arranging furniture and decorations.

Players can gain access to the first room in The Lodge by speaking with Noel after joining Constellation. The Lodge room is located on the second floor and is sided by the Common Room. Alternatively, players with the "Kid Stuff" trait will also be able to visit their parents' house in Pioneer Tower, which comes with a room and a range of facilities for the player to use. Pioneer Tower can be found by traveling to the far end of the Residential District in New Atlantis.

Full Properties

For players who prefer a more private and personalized experienced, it is also possible to rent and purchase full properties which can then be customized with a variety of furnishings and equipment. To buy a house in New Atlantis, players will first need to obtain citizenship within the United Colonies. This can be done by visiting Tuala in the MAST district of New Atlantis, who will start the player on the United Colonies faction quest-line.

Once citizenship has been granted, players will be able to visit the Aphelion Realty real estate agents in New Atlantis, which will present them with a choice of homes to buy. The first apartment will cost 30,000 credits and is located in the Well district of the city. Players will also be able to purchase a small two-floor apartment and can also be rewarded with a large penthouse for completing the United Colonies quest-line. Players with the "Dream Home" perk will also have the option of owning a private home in the Olympus system, though this comes with a hefty price of 125,000 credits.

Starfield is available now on Xbox Series X/S and PC.
