Starfield gives players a galaxy to explore filled with exciting secrets and missions. This includes a companion straight out of the history books. That's right, Amelia Earhart is a companion that can be recruited into the crew. The only way to recruit her involves a miscellaneous quest. A distress signal from the Charybdis system may be picked up when traveling.

Traveling to this system is the first of many long grav jumps players will have to make. Jump from the Cheyenne system to Zosma then Charybdis. It's best to upgrade the ship's grave drive before beginning this quest line. The player's ship should have at least 28LY jump capabilities to complete the entire mission.

Investigate the Cruciblestarfield-crucible

Once players have made it to the system they need to land on Charybdis III at the Crucible. The miscellaneous quest will become a real mission called Operation Starseed. Gamers will be greeted by the robot that sent the signal and Ada Lovelace. She will direct the player to Franklin.

It turns out Franklin is none other than the long-dead president Franklin Roosevelt. He explains the Crucible is a colony populated by clones of famous historical figures. The mysterious Facility and its robots recreate these clones if they die. He will direct the player to meet the other leaders on the planet. Amelia will be outside Franklin's building and profess her need to get off the planet and explore. She can join up after this quest is finished depending on the outcome.

Meet the Faction Leaders

The other leaders are Genghis Khan and Amanirenas. Franklin and these two have different ideas about the future of the colony. They've each amassed a group of supporters following them creating three separate societies. Players will have to choose a faction to support as they progress.

  • Pragmatists - Franklin's society takes a balanced approach and believes they should learn to rely on themselves instead of the Facility before spreading out to the stars.
  • Believers - Amanirenas and her followers believe they are reincarnations of historical figures meant to conquer the galaxy. She wants the Facility restored so they can pass its test to leave.
  • Renegades - Genghis wants freedom for his people. He knows the Facility kills clones that try to escape and wants it destroyed. He doesn't feel much like his historical visage and wants a normal chance at life with his society.

Secret Lives

Wyatt Earp will introduce himself as a kindly shopkeeper until the player has met all the leaders. He will then ask to meet at a nearby cave where he reveals his true identity. Earp is actually a clone of the serial killer H.H. Holmes. If he cannot be persuaded he will try to blow himself up along with the player. It's up to the player to tell the leaders about his true name, but some will want him dead. This miscellaneous mission will not affect the main quest line.

Investigate the Facility

Land at the Facility on the other side of the planet to find it in disrepair. Insects have taken over the area and the robots have begun to malfunction.

Thoroughly explore the Facility to find seven different diary entries revealing the place's backstory. At the end of the Facility there are a few high-level Maggotmaws. Bring strong weapons and armor to dispatch them. There is a locked shutter along with a computer terminal. The terminal is locked and needs a Security Override Code that can't be found here. Return to the Crucible and give the information about the Galathea to a faction leader.

Investigate the Beagle

Once a leader has been chosen, speak to Ada. She states that the equipment on Crucible points to the stars. She believes that the answers are on a ship called the Beagle and that it's tied to the Galathea. It is located many systems away from Charybdis. The last jump players need to make is 28 LY to get to the Zelazny System and find the ship.

The Beagle has been abandoned save for a series of turrets and medic robots. Read the terminals to learn that the ship has failed it's half of the project. Fight to the end of the ship to reach its datacore and secure the Security Override Code. Bring it back to the Crucible for Ada to decrypt. The leaders will squabble and one of them will have to be killed depending on character choices. There is no way to keep all three alive. Make sure to only attack the leader as there is a known bug that can cause every colonist on Crucible to be hostile if others are attacked.

Return to the Facility

Once the situation has been settled return to the facility and open the shutter using the code. Fight through robots, turrets, and clones. There will be a high-level clone leader as the last enemy in the Facility. All the clones have old-earth weaponry if players are looking for them. The Facility Datacore is at the end of the hall.

Make the ultimate choice to decide the fate of the Crucible.

  • Reboot and restore current Mission parameters resets the project and doesn't pick a side.
  • Reboot and choose a new Super-Admin gives the players the ability to hand control over to the faction they want.
  • Initiate Full Project Cleanse will cause the robots to kill all the clones and end the project. This option will kill Amelia Earhart as well and the player will not be able to hire her as a companion.

Recruit Amelia Earhart

If players didn't initiate the cleanse they can return to the leaders for a reward. Amelia Earhart can now be recruited to the player's crew. She has a few skill points in piloting which will make ships more nimble while flying them. Enjoy her old-timey accent and wonder as you explore the stars together.
